Strip before Part Exchange?

Post by Damocles Edge »

Whenever I have traded in my ship for a new one I have previously stripped items of equipment from it that is not part of the basic model (for example lasers, energy unit).
I am trying to decide whether this course of action is correct, as stripping equipment from your ship affects the part exchange value, plus you rarely get the what the item originally cost (nor should you I suppose as it is second hand).
I am wondering what everyone else does when changing ships, do you strip out non-basic equipment to get some additional credits (at the expense of your trade in value)?
Or do you part exchange the ship as it is?

Wish I could determine the maths employed under hood to determine trade in values for both ships and equipment.

AFAIK trading cost of ship is calculated as (hull + core equipment + upgrades) * trade quotient. It is highly recommended to perform ship maintenance overhaul just before selling ship to maximize trade quotient. In this case price for selling equipment is same if you'll sell it bundled with ship or individually, but you'll lost time for disassembling it. If you have ship in non ideal condition however and have no possibility to perform maintenance overhaul selling equipment individually will give some profit.
Hope somebody with better knowledge will correct me if I lost some essential details.

Lasers seem to sell for full value, so stripping them gives you more credits.
Removing all the missiles probably does too, unless all you have is 1 basic missile.
Other equipment may have a higher resale value stripping it off vs selling it with the ship due to the trade quotient being lowered by needing a ship overhaul.
