good, i always disliked fantasy genre being lumped in with sci fi. so i have tried to steer away from using it here. i do enjoy reading it but it is getting harder to find true science fiction..

The one I was expecting someone to get was Blish's A Life for the Stars, one of the Cities in Flight series. But I was wrong to say he also had a first short story with Life in the title - that was Heinlein's Life-Line

The author that comes to mind is Heinlein - my first thought was The Cat Who Walks Through Walls but I've a feeling it's older than that - maybe The Door Into Summer, that has a cat in it.

Excellent - many others, of course, e.g. John Wyndam's Trouble With Lichen, Niven's The Integral Trees, and Guardians of the Galaxy, but those will do nicely.

Okay: five reptilian alien races, from five different SF universes. I'm not going to quibble too much about the actual physiology: if they're scaly/saurian, they're in - but they do have to possess at least human levels of intelligence.

pilot from Farscape ?? not sure if he qualifies as reptilian...
Silurians from Dr Who
there were a few in Men in Black movies but i am not sure if any were named as a race..

I'll allow the Pilots from Farscape – there's a lot going on there but I can certainly see a reptilian quality in the mix. But I'll need a species name for number 5 …

in MIB there was a reptile character under the name of Mikey, not sure if ever the race was mentioned. However in Star Wars (A New Hope) a race called Sarkans appeared, definitely reptiles.
