By mistake a quantum computer was instantiated in the future (of 1984)
This created the game known as Elite.
This is why the retro vortex still exists.

I don't know exactly what you're talking about, would a quantum computer be teleported in the year 1984 of our real world? The game being set in the same universe (just much later) as H.G. Wells' novel 1984?
