Thanks, phkb!
Commanders, is it a good idea to describe some my OXPs briefly with links (in new topic of course) before converting to OXZ format?

Absolutely. Feel free to open new topics in Expansion Pack (probably best if it is one topic per OXP) and, in the meantime, you can get set up to upload them to the Manager.

Re: Introduce Yourself.
Hi,
I'm new to this board but not Elite and other spin offs, reproductions and "inspired by" copy cats... I once tried to type the BASIC code for Star Trade into my ZX Spectrum 48k but it didn't work! (unsurprisingly)
in 1984 my best friends brother showed me Elite on his BBC micro B and I was hooked. I longed for it to be released on the Spectrum.
in 1985 my dreams were realised but I had to wait until Christmas that year to get my hands on a copy (thanks Santa) - that weird security device drove me up the wall but earlier that year for my birthday I had got a little box with a red button which stopped the game so I could save it to a Microdrive at the point I stopped it - reduced the load time and circumvented the security (I could also map my joystick)
in 1985/86 I played it every spare second I could.
in 1988 I sold my Speccy
In 1996 I bought Privateer: The Darkening in the hope it would fulfil my nostalgic craving for Elite...
in 2003 I bought Freelancer with the same idea (...hated it)
In 2012 I discovered Galaxy on Fire 2 and it was the closest I had come to Elite without it being Elite.
Around this time I also discovered Oolite... but my life is very busy and very complicated.
Recently I have been playing "Unknown" on iOS, which as far as I can tell is pretty faithful port of the original Elite and it works well on an iPad (there are a few things not quite right, such as the lasers are a bit over powered and it seems to quickly move you up the ranks.)
So hello everyone.

Hi Redhouse, welcome to the boards! I, too, remember the box with the little red button, and having to make a pirate copy of a game I'd paid for, because the little plastic lens only worked one time out of every four …

Ha ha, yes. 1:4 times? You must have been one of the lucky ones! I'm glad it wasn't just me though. Oh, and just to be clear it wasn't a "Pirate Copy" it was my "saved game data"Disembodied wrote: ↑Wed Apr 18, 2018 9:00 amHi Redhouse, welcome to the boards! Re: Introduce Yourself.
It's possible that the trauma may have caused me to suppress many of the memories.
The one downside I remember of using the memory dump was that I didn't get to see any Adders in my game. The Spectrum version was low on ships anyway - no Boas or Anacondas, as far as I recall - and there was some wangle when the game was loaded that decided whether, that session, you'd see Adders or Kraits (but not both). But because I had to use a version created by the LERM tape copier, my version was perpetually frozen in the Kraits-but-no-Adders state. Maybe that's why I enjoy flying an Adder now …

Welcome aboard, Commander!
A sweet ship to fly, especially when tweaked a little.Maybe that's why I enjoy flying an Adder now …
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!
