Stephen Hawking has died.

A hugely significant figure - in physics, in SF, and in helping the public to realise, to some extent, that disability does not necessarily equate to stupidity. He'll be missed.

A great pity … we need public intellectuals more now than ever. He had a great deal to contribute, and not just about physics.

In the future, he will be remembered with the likes of Archimedes, Galileo, Leonardo and Einstein. We have lost one of the great minds of all time, and a truly inspirational man. A very sad day.
