Re: Science Fiction Trivia
Alternative answer (what with time travel and all, the Tom Baker story "Genesis of the Daleks" is set before the William Hartnell story "The Daleks"): Ronson, a member of the Kaled scientific elite. Ronson turned against Davros and became the first live target to be shot by a Dalek. He briefly turned a bit negative and died (slumped onto a desk, so at least he didn't have to fall on the floor).Smivs wrote:Who was the first person to be zapped by a Dalek, and what happened to them?

Re: Science Fiction Trivia
Well, in a sense you are both right!
However Ian Chesterton was the first person we saw get zapped, so that was the answer I was looking for.

Re: Science Fiction Trivia
I suspected as much … not least because my answer to the "and what happened to them?" part of the question was essentially "What do you think happened to them?" Ian Chesterton must be one of the very few people ever to survive being zapped by a Dalek …Smivs wrote:Ian Chesterton was the first person we saw get zapped, so that was the answer I was looking for.

Will these do?
Bat'leth
Dalek Exterminator
Auton hand-gun

Re: Science Fiction Trivia
OK: in Larry Niven's "Known Space" series of books and short stories, most forms of life in our region of the galaxy share a common ancestor. What is it?

Re: Science Fiction Trivia
There are at least two answers. The Pak evolved nearer the galactic core and are the ancestral species for hominids including humanity, Ringworld dwellers, etc. But there are also a lot of species that evolved from the algae the Slavers used to seed a lot of planets. I don't know off-hand if the Pak come from this source or not.

Re: Science Fiction Trivia
The Pak are indeed the ancestral species for many hominids, including ourselves, but it's your second answer that I'm looking for: most organic life - including (probably) the Pak - evolved from Slaver food-yeasts.
