Commies.oxp (v2.07)

You can buy external heat shields, I think it's a hardcoded item by Giles, I've trawled through and can't see which version they were added. I'm not sure either at which Tech level you can buy them, as you say could not find anything in the Wiki, but I've certainly got them fitted in my Supercobra.

Yes the player can buy them (and they're really nice for pet owners and sunskimmers) but it's not mentioned in the wiki as one of the options for which equipment can be fitted on npc ships. Perhaps it's just an old article. I'll give it a try in the next update of commies.

Saw my first Worker's Commute last night..............and promtly blew it up. And too my utter joy I was able to fill up my cargo with Alloys and Slaves...................eeeeeeeeeexcellent.
You've done a great job with this oxp, so what have you got planned for the Corporate States? Party ships full of girls on their hen nights? Limo's carrying rock stars like jjagged edge?

I think there's definitely scope for plenty of gaudy billboards advertising various shady establishments.
Corporate States are strange though - on the one hand they are the most policed of all systems, yet probably the most ruthless (the way the Sirius Corporation is described in Frontier is a good example) and in a world where money is everything, it's very likely that their morals fall short of those found in democracies and confederacies. I reckon corporates would try to keep some of the more unwholesome activities at a distance, and so I'd imagine dedicated tourist stations being set up away from the main trade routes.
P.S., Commies is coming along very nicely. I was doing something similar for a potential mission but I only got as far as pasting some old Soviet propaganda posters on billboards and dotting them around the system. Being followed by NeuroPol units is far more unsettling!

So Corporate States are actually fascist states. I'm sure they keep order and make the Worm Transporters run on time, but they probably aren't much fun to live in unless you're on a board of directors."Fascism should more properly be called corporatism because it is the merger of state and corporate power." -- Benito Mussolini

Thanks for all the feedback.
Billboards.oxp is a great idea and shouldn't be hard to implement. I don't know why nobody has picked it up since one tutorial already points in that direction.- I actually made a list of stuff I'd like to see advertised in various types of systems yesterday :puzzled:. Using navigational buoys and witchpoint entry buoys could be an obvious way to go. And having the witchpoint buoy in some systems broadcasting coms messages to go with the add - you know they would do it in the real world. And how about a billboard subentity on the back of classic stations. One beauty is that having a multitude of entities with the same role used as a billboard subentity would ensure constant rotation of ads.

Some suggestions for real markings instead of my gaffed together letters are welcome. I realize how silly they probably look. Everything is just attempts at phonetics except the trumble prohibition which is a mix of Babelfish and phonetics, and the Совхоз that also was spelled in Russian in the English Wikipedia. I have most of the graphics saved as layered files, so it would probably be quite easy to edit most of it, if you post suggestions in cyrillic caps here. To keep the exotic look (for us Roman lettered) it would be nice with something with i's, ya's and the likeArkanoiD wrote:What does СЛАПЮ (SLAPU) mean? once recoded to different cyrillic encoding it becomes "умбра" (umbra).
will help with other russian-originated writings, it is my native language
Yes. That is what it is. Funny though that it can change from SLAPU to UMBRA - that's shade in Latin, right?ramon wrote:I could be wrong, but doesn't it mean Solar Laboratory and Production Unit
