Since I'm completely reshuffling my Add-ons folders from scratch anyway... which OXPs and OXZs, from the Manager or manually installed, would add the most depth, complications, immersitivity, and general busy-ness of the Maesin system?
Anarchies is obvious, and the Casino, Black Monks, taxi service, ads, fuel stations, convenience stores, disembarking to the station, and satellites seem like good picks. I want to dig up the respray that provides a rainbow-ish skin for a Cobra, but I forget the name of the one that adds pretty backgrounds to station menus... BGS? Xenon? I'm also open to suggestions for a HUD, and am probably going to merge the Captain Berf soundsets when I have a chance.
What's your advice for when I get back home to my laptop?

Don't know about Maesin, but I never go anywhere without Random Ship Names and Skilled NPCs.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

That would be BGS.. but there's also Smivs' Better Screens.
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

Re: Adding Depth to Maesin: Which OXPs should I install?
Any suggestions for improving the system's astronomy - planets, stars, suns, and whatnot?
Eg, the expansion manager's "Additional Planets SR" collections, vs Distant Stars, vs Distant Suns, vs Realistic Stars, vs Solar Flares, vs System Features: Rings, vs System Features: Sunspots, vs Zygo's set, vs non-manager PovrayPlanets, DarkSpace, Sensible Sun, Graffiti Asteroids, etc, etc...
Which provide the best visual bang for the smallest hit to FPS? (I've got a dinky little 8-year-old laptop's GPU, after all.)
Similarly, anyone care to opine on soundsets? After playing Captain Berf's sets in VLC, I'm hesitating before installing them.

If you just want a standalone sound pack, I'd suggest Milinks and Aegidians Custom Sounds, 'cause it is the most complete set.
Sidenote: If you are using BGS, then you don't need another sound pack. A modified Customsounds.OXP is integrated.
