Hey guys, haven't been here for a while (yay holidays)
I intend to (messily) make my own voice add ons to Oolite, and I'd like the voice to match that of the BGS general alerts. This voice is the one used for stuff such as "mass locked" or "cargo jettisoned". I can't seem to find the exact voice online. Do any of the original developers (or anyone with knowledge of voice synthesis) know which exact female voice was used?
Thanks

Message Svengali - he'd know.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

Most of the used voice samples in BGS are from milinks Customsounds.oxp from 2006. If I recall it right milinks recorded his wife instead of using speech synthesis. Some other samples are made by aegidian (dunno which voice was used), but some years ago I've asked him if he still has the raw data. Unfortunately not anymore. All files have been modified for BGS (normalized, filtered, etc).
For some later additions, like the countdown, I've used Marytts with the Prudence voice + Protools and Audacity. Protools is Mac-only though, but some years ago digidesign (the former owner) released free versions for Windows as well.

Interesting.. the voice always reminded me of Majel Barrett, to be honest.
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

Yes. I think milinks took two or three sounds from other sources. You can hear the differences when listening to them one after the other.Diziet Sma wrote:Interesting.. the voice always reminded me of Majel Barrett, to be honest.
