Reducing Ship Value?

Post by NewtSoup »

Been playing Oolite for 2 days now. I've noticed that the trade in value of my ship started at 109,000

Now I've upgraded it with a large cargo bay and done a few trade runs it's now only got a trade in value of 97,000 when earlier this evening it was worth 99,000 and last night 105,000

This is just the starter Cobra Mk III

Why is it reducing in value? Can I stop it ?

Hi NewtSoup - this reflects ongoing wear and tear on your ship. Eventually you'll be offered a [EliteWiki] maintenance overhaul which, for a price, will spiff up your ship again and restore it to its full trade-in value. It is generally believed (by me, at least) that it's better to get an overhaul done at the highest available tech level. This might be simple superstition on my part, but honestly - would you rather have your ship serviced by a tech whose kit includes a quantum dot-welder and a full set of monopole ferrules, or a tech whose kit consists of 3 out of 5 spanners and an oily rag?

… which in some cases is just a rock tied to a stick. And the stick is optional.

Thanks for the info guys :) I thought it would all just buff out with some T-Cut. I look forward to the day when I can play my Cobra like a steel drum.
