Which weapon is best ?

Hello Folks!

I have the odd question, which weapon do you think is best ?
As classic elite gamer at that time back in C64 time, it was by my means "Mining Laser".

Today there are a long range of lasers, which works differently and are for different purposes I guess.

I Tried some artillery laser which closed 100,000 credits, it was good, one ship down in 3 direct hits but it was reloading little slow. I also tried dual gatling laser, it was firing in a rapid manner, but ship was down in 5-6 bursts, then the laster went offline for almost 10-20 seconds or more.

Also I face a problem with all lasers except mining laser.
Pulse laser, beam laser, military laser, the dual gatling laser and the artillery laser constantly fails after 2 ships down and it need repair. I had to use the laser in back and sides of my ship fighting down ships.

Any ideas and suggestions regarding lasers/weapons ?

That seems odd. None of the core game lasers can actually be damaged. All of them, though, can overheat and need time to cool down. If they really are being damaged, then I suspect an OXP is doing it.

In the core game Military Laser is the best without questions. About OXP lasers you can read through the following wiki pages and select what you like.

Laser Cannons are stronger but slower so check the damage/seconds column for a comparsion.
New Lasers contain additional rapid ones.
Gatling Laser and Eco Lasers are also well described.

Finally, when you tried out all of these and still want something new, moreover you are ready to replace your whole ship to be able to mount a unique laser then there are special ships with external Sniper Guns.

Regarding laser fails I suspect Laser Booster, where the documented small chance to break is rather high.

The Heavy Railgun can be a brutal weapon, especially if the slugs are tweaked - but it takes skill to use it.

Welcome to the only forum where 'the only stupid question is the one not asked'. Don't know who said that. but it stuck.

The best weapon. Mmm, Easy, the one that works for you.
I'm a bitty old school and don't add all the weapon extras. So the Military laser is top gun for me.

Tried the rail gun, thinking 'Wild west shoot out in space'. Not for me. Like the colt 45 of it's time. Useless at over 30 feet. Accuracy was dismal. Looks good in the movies. Recon it was like most things. If it was yours and you used it for years you would be good with it. Give anyone famous for their shooting of the time with another same model but not theirs. Dismal.

Think about it. A projectile at a moving target. Target can move really fast and change direction instantly. (Handwavium physics. Which I love about this game) A rail gun is a nice idea, but you might as well fire a pea shooter at a Phantom jet.

Admit I did try the rail gun up close and personal. Close enough to nudge the ship (in the way of my docking) Unloaded a full magazine. Oh ye that was sadistic fun. Really glad I still had my military grade lasers and kick bum ship. Took a few police vipers on my way out of that system. Not welcome there again for a while.

The best weapon is your imagination and a kick ass ship. Look through the board, every one has their idea of "The Kick Ass Ship"

This game is for fun. There is no right way to play, or for that matter best anything.

When you see "Press Space" and think 'STUPID' then laugh.. You have it.

Confirmed kill at over 13km. I disabled my lasers, which tends to hasten the learning experience!

13km WOW! With that ol thing? Double WOW.

Still bet you wouldn't pit it against The Gertrude and her cobolt blue military laser. "to hasten the learning experience!"
