Oolite version number confusion

Post by Harmless »

I've been experimenting with five different versions of Oolite, and recently I've found myself thinking I was using one version of Oolite, when in fact I was using another.

Is there a simple way to test which version of Oolite is currently running?

The trunk versions conveniently list the version number in the upper right portion of the screen.

With other versions, I've been able to determine version by searching Windows Oolite memory for the string, "Oolite v" but that seems a bit too geeky. Is there an easier way?

Thanks!

Very respectfully,

It is in the first line of your Latest.log file.

In addition to what hogling said, there are at least two more ways to get the version without too much hassle.

1. Run in windowed mode and check the window title. It should say something like "Oolite v1.84 - [Date the executable was created].

2. Run the game with the -showversion parameter. This will display the version number on the rotating Cobra screen in the format "v[Major].[Minor]".

You can also check inside oolite.app/Resources/Info-gnustep.plist and find the entry <key>CFBundleVersion</key>. The line following that contains the version number, but this is a more convoluted way and the other ones are much easier.

Funny, that windowed mode title was right under my nose! Thanks, that's very handy.

Oolite v1.85 May 27 2017 has no obvious artifiacts -- it's working great. I've just finished maxing out the Cobra Mk III (mostly), but haven't started the hunt yet.

As always, what a great bit of fun! Thx!
