Docking clear + sundry

Post by Alex »

For starters, I'm a bit young to be a vet. Played Elite org. without any help or manual to Elite. Started Oolite at 1.65
My favourite builds were 1.76 and 1.80 Still play 1.80 coz hated 1.82 (My opinion, Stuffed up the markets).
Downloaded 1.84 a while back, put in my addons and cofig'ed my joystick. Played half an hour. No markets anywhere except main station..
I know this has been covered before.

But treat me as a noobie on this, what do I need to get the markets running?

Docking clearance! What do I need to delete to get rid of this red tape?

I dock at full speed and sometimes leapfrog others on their way in. Have sometimes had to give NPCs a little 'nudge' when they were to close to the port to leap them. Occasionally even dock under thrusters, Now that is white knuckle fun.

Sundry;
Read through "First impressions after a long break" by Britnoth.

Really interesting points there. Page 5 sparas post about new Jameson advice. I tried the start advice 2 oxz. You can't buy thrusters and cargo at Zaonce. So I bought cargo and went on to Isinor. Heading to Qutiri. Will need luck and no bricks in the pockets. Getting to Isinor was no easy feat. Took 2 tries using everything I know about flying with no weapons and avoidance. Most of the way I was persued by three little red boogers. That's another story.

Starting point for new Jamesons: I prefer the idea of the time/jumps related difficulty. But then again, what other game throws you in with bricks in your pockets? I done both Elite and Oolite with the only instruction "You have to rotate with the station to dock" Remember.. No manual, no back story, No Internet!, just a BBC micro and a 3"floppy. Oh and another Jamison with the same problems.

Here's an idea. Include a link to the bulletin boards with every game download, with the note "Better than any manual. You can ask actual people that play".

Could go on forever with sundry stuff.
Main points;
Docking red tape delete.
Markets for 1.84 on all dockables.

Go F2, Game Options to disable the Docking Clearance Protocol.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

<grins> Like you, I learnt Elite in the cockpit, without a manual or help - and I also started Oolite at 1.65.

As for markets, your OXPs probably need updating.

Markets not working are normally due to old versions of station OXPs not having been updated to the current way of declaring markets. I believe the easiest way to have markets working would be to update all station OXPs you use to their latest versions. Doing that through the in-game OXP manager should be the way to go, as most OXPs that get updated have also their latest version available there. By now almost all station OXPs should be already updated.

Re docking clearance, what Cody said. You can still dock on injectors if you want.

Yes AC. I see that.
I dock at full speed in 1.84, no worries. Cody told how to turn off the red tape. Very easy.

Here are some thoughts for this game;

No1: NO newtonian science. This is a fantasy space game. yes we can stop on an atom. Let the geeks worry about reality.

No2: Billions of 'stuff' to choose from.

No3: You don't like your choice. Well choose something else. It is Your Choice!

Unfortunately the Galactic Navy can't be updated. You can fix it yourself, but getting the same market definitions will require information from the original commodities.plist combined with a CommodityDefinition script, check out this write up by spara:

https://bb.oolite.space/viewtopic.php?f= ... 21#p239979

So you need to get into the config folder in the galnavy oxp and have a look at the commodities.plist, looking at an old version of galnavy I have I see that food looks like this:

Code: Select all

	<key>navystat</key>
	<array>
		<array>
			<string>Food</string>
			<integer>0</integer>
			<integer>0</integer>
			<integer>12</integer>
			<integer>0</integer>
			<integer>0</integer>
			<integer>0</integer>
			<integer>1</integer>
			<integer>0</integer>
			<integer>0</integer>
		</array>
You will need to change spara's example script so it looks like this:

Code: Select all

this.$originalDefs = {
	"food" : [0, 0, 12, 0, 0, 0, 1, 0, 0],
Do this for each commodity you want to reflect the original market definition from the oxp.

If you named the script "galNavy-market.js" your addition to the shipdata.plist would look something like this:

Code: Select all

		<key>market_script</key>
		<string>galNavy-market.js</string>
Add this after

Code: Select all

		<key>market</key>
		<string>navystat</string>
If you want a different market for the behemoths you will have to set up another script and add it to the shipdata.plist for them.
