Why do collisions with cargo and splinters count as a kill ?

Post by Duggan »

I am curious to know why when one fails to scoop a Cargo Container or a Splinter adequately and it smashes on your Hull it becomes a kill. And perhaps more pertinently , Should it really contribute to a kill count ?

Do they? Not here - must be an OXP causing that.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills

I don't think it actually contributes. At least it doesn't on my OXP-free test environment. The code checks specifically for whether the item destroyed is cargo, buoy or rock and does not award a kill if this is the case. Maybe an OXP is interfering there. Can you try to confirm whether this happens in strict mode or not?

Yes indeed , I'll check in strict mode . It would be a shame if it is an add on that causes this .

Reminds me to ask why destroying dead robot fighters is a kill? Apart from "we've always done it that way". I suppose not doing it would make becoming elite a lot harder, of course.

[game-in-the-head mode] They ain't dead, they're only dormant, and could awake if another warship appeared. There are tales told of scooped drones re-activating in the hold and causing all sorts of damage. Kill 'em all! [/game-in-the-head mode]

Good point, I'd forgotten that. Plus I suppose the reward comes in pretty handy at the start of the game especially.
