I was wondering if it would be possible to add an option to have minimal / optimal synthesized speech within the game. I actually quite like having it on, as I find it adds atmosphere, but also gives me more aural cues if I've stepped away from the computer.
However, I'm going slowly mad with the repetitive monotone droning that are messages like "Missle armed", "Missiles on safety", "Identification Computer Active" et al.
I can pretty much guess what your answer is going to be... probably something along the lines of, alter a p-list file somewhere and simply remove the entries I don't want the computer to say... correct?
If that is the case then so be it.
One other small thing, is it worth moving the Load/Save screen to something like the zero key so that you can access options during flight? Or is it too much hassle to code an enable/disable load/save routine? OR is it simply just not necessary? Again, whatever the answer, I'll go with it on this one, it's not really that important.

Sorry, a lot of those messages are hard-coded. I could (and probably should) move them to descriptions.plist so what you suggest can be accomplished.
Hmm. I'll have to think about that one.Darkbee wrote:One other small thing, is it worth moving the Load/Save screen to something like the zero key so that you can access options during flight? Or is it too much hassle to code an enable/disable load/save routine? OR is it simply just not necessary?

Of course the actual "Options" option is still greyed out isn't it? I don't know what you had in mind for this, it may be the case that it isn't necessary to move it from key 2 but it occured to me that it might be useful.

It also occured to me that if you did move ALL of the text to speech stuff to a file that you'd probably have to implement some sort of control codes for when you have variable text like System name, bounty etc etc.
Perhaps this is a modification for a rainy day or when you are bored and have nothing to do (as if).

You know, I have not yet had the chance to even hear Oolite in all it's audio glory! Mainly due to my other half having work to do on the other machine or she is watching TV, and me being too busy/lazy to get the headphones (then forgetting afterwards).
Tonight, I shall hear all! The last Elite (not counting FE2 or FFE) that I heard was the Amiga version.

The act of talking b*ll*cks whilst waving one's arms about wildly is referred to as testiculation.
