Selling Equipment
Hi, how about this?
Not being a computer boffin, I don't know how feasible this would be, but how about making all equipment sellable? Not necessarily for what you paid, just to get rid of it. Sometimes you buy something and it turns out to be either not as good as you thought or you just don't seem to use it. For example, I never seem to use my APRIL pylon reloader, laser booster, tracker camera or mine safety catch, But I still have to cycle through it in primable equipment.
Keep up the good work all you OXP writers.

Here... and welcome aboard.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills

Re: Selling Equipment
Hi,
Right, ok, good, thanks. My version of Oolite is the one with the 'Manage Expansion Packs' option in the main menu. This is great for me as I have very little understanding of computers. However, I did manage to open the Oolite file and find a folder called Expansion Packs. Can I just 'cut and paste' the downloaded OXP into that folder and it'll work?

You must unzip it, see this guide.Commander Philthy wrote: ↑Thu Mar 30, 2017 11:56 amCan I just 'cut and paste' the downloaded OXP into that folder and it'll work?
Note this pack sell core equipments only, to remove an oxp one you can uninstall the pack which contain it, then load and save your game. This will remove the equipment from your ship, then you can reinstall the pack if needed.

Ah, didn't know that - never actually used it.
In case you're not sure how to unzip, right-click on the downloaded folder and click Extract All.

Re: Selling Equipment
Hi,
Starting to feel like a pain in the arse now with loads of dumb questions, probably due to not knowing the computer terminology. When I open the folder called 'Oolite' it shows nine other folders. None is called AddOns, but the top one is titled Expansion Packs. When I opened that it was empty. Is this where I put the OXP. I've singled out the bit that ends .oxp.
If I've done it right will the 'Ship Outfitting' screen have a load of new 'sell' options?
Thanks for your patience.

Re: Selling Equipment
If you are on Windows and by folders you mean what shows up in the Start menu under the Oolite entry, then yes, Expansion Packs opens the game's AddOns folder and that is where you should drag and drop the .oxp folder you intend to install.
Should look something like this:

Re: Selling Equipment
Sell equipments are appear just for standard ones and only which is in your ship at the moment and only in stations with the same techlevel necessary to buy the equipment. But none of you mentioned is standard, for these the author of the oxp can add a remove option or if it is missing then you can uninstall the package.
Note manually installed OXPs must be in a folder ending with .oxp directly within the AddOns folder. For example the zip you try to install contain

sell_equipment 1.5/sell_equipment1.5.oxp
folders, so you must move the .oxp folder one level higher, not enough if you just extract it.- Cody

Don't worry about that - ask any questions you need answered.Commander Philthy wrote: ↑Thu Mar 30, 2017 1:05 pmStarting to feel like a pain in the arse now with loads of dumb questions, probably due to not knowing the computer terminology.

Re: Selling Equipment
Once you've played a while you'll have enough money that it isn't worth worrying about selling most equipment, if it's provided by an add-on just uninstall the add-on and it will vanish forever.

Hi,
When I open my Oolite folder it lists nine other folders.
Expansion Packs

Oolite
Why isn't there one called AddOns?
I'm not sure sure which version of Oolite I'm using, but it must be a recent one.
I'm on Windows 10.
This is now becoming more of a mission to try and understand computers than install OXPs!
Thanks for your time and patience.

Re: Selling Equipment
The items you are listing are not folders, they are shortcuts. They just tell the OS to go and open files or folders at the locations they are pointing to. The Expansion Packs shortcut points directly to the game's AddOns folder. When you click on it it opens up a Windows Explorer window and, if you look at the text bar on the top of that window, it lists the full path where it's looking at, which ends with AddOns - check my earlier screenshot, it's there too. In that screenshot you can also see what it looks like when an expansin pack (called SellEquipment.oxp in that example) has been copied into that folder and is ready to be used by the game.Commander Philthy wrote: ↑Fri Mar 31, 2017 7:51 amHi,

Re: Selling Equipment
It's worth getting to know Windows Explorer (I think it's called File Explorer on Win 10, and should have an icon on the Taskbar by default).

Re: Selling Equipment
Bingo! Done it! Feels quite satisfying. It was the bit about the path in the text bar that did it. Thanks to Another_Commander and all you other helpful space pilots. Brace yourself for more questions later, I'm sure I'll come up with some.
(It's just computers and stuff I struggle with, I'm generally alright with machines that have moving parts.)
Thanks again,
Commander Philthy

That's great! Imagine how would all the space movies end if a mechanic was not in close vicinity!Commander Philthy wrote: ↑Fri Mar 31, 2017 1:47 pm...(It's just computers and stuff I struggle with, I'm generally alright with machines that have moving parts.)...
