Physical screen sizes
Sometimes, size does, in fact, matter. Especially when it comes to games that take place entirely in space, and you know, space is huge. I somehow believe that if you're playing a space game like Oolite, immersion is something quite important. And to that end, the screen size helps with immersion.
I'm on a small 23 inch screen full HD at the moment. But I may get my hands on a large 55 inch screen. I'm thinking of hooking it up to my dedicated Oolite machine... Maybe that's overkill, but would certainly help in immersion. Ever docked in a Coriolis on 55 inches?
Do you play with large or small screens?

Re: Physical screen sizes
I am not a player just an oxp developer but I think nowadays worth to upgrade a gamer machine to larger screen. For example a 40" UHD TV costs about $500, a GTX1050 around 140$, imho will worth the money for more and more players. This is why I started the HDBG project.

Re: Physical screen sizes
I'm currently restricted to a laptop with a 14" screen.. and am in the process of building a decent gaming computer. Largely for space-games. To that end, the visual stuff is going to be handled by 3 slim bezel 23" monitors, mounted side-by-side. I already have them, and they're just waiting for the rest of the computer. Next purchase, next week, will be the GeForce 1080 GTX to drive them.
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

Still using an old 19" (1280x1024) monitor here.
Sounds like you're gearing-up for ED, amigo!Diziet Sma wrote:To that end, the visual stuff is going to be handled by 3 slim bezel 23" monitors, mounted side-by-side. I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

Among others, yes..
(and having owned that particular game for a couple of years, it would be nice to have a computer it actually runs on... )

3 screens in portrait or in landscape?

Landscape, of course..
If I was going portrait, I'd use 5 monitors..

Re: Physical screen sizes
How does it compare with a VR headset? Do they have no head tracking and no 3D mode? Like, just two screens that completely fill your field of vision?

Re: Physical screen sizes
23" - I've played with it in portrait mode a couple of times, gives an odd feeling to the game but works well.
