Did I just find a glitch in the game?

Post by pleiadian »

I was in combat just now, apparently mercenaries hired to take me out because of the passenger I am carrying. As I'm a pretty noob commander, I'm on the verge of losing my ship. Then, an attacker rams me. I can see my ship explode, but nothing happens. Not the "Press Space Commander" thing. I'm just staring into space. Suddenly, I get the docking sequence and I'm in the system's main station with my ship - even though it's damaged.

So uh... what just happened?

Escape pod?
I'm not sure it fired, plus I still have my ship.

That's how it seems - after ejecting, on arrival at the station you'll 'awake' in a replacement ship. Do you have auto-eject installed?
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

I'm not sure I installed that. If so, that might be the reason - however, the replacement ship was completely battered, which cost me pretty much all the money I had as a noob to repair. There still are things to repair, but now I need some cash to be able to do something. The passenger I was carrying in a contract is gone also. I guess that didn't do very well on courier rep.

Worth noting that parcels stay with you after ejecting - although you may lose days whilst in the escape pod.

Escape pod?
Just to touch base on this one... it turns out that if you buy the Escape Pod equipment item, the text also states "...plus some comprehensive coverage for your ship and equipment". So I installed an OXP which gives me more credits at the beginning, bought this item and let myself deliberately be killed in an Anarchy system. Same behavior, I'm dead but I somehow "dock" at the station, have the same ship back - but heavily damaged. You are responsible to repair it, but you are still able to fly and you are alive. I guess it's a fair trade-off.

So not a glitch  But it's ok 8)

You must also have a pod auto-activation OXP installed somewhere too. Otherwise, you can't just let be killed and get to see the escape sequence. You have to fast-double-tap the escape key in order for the pod to acrivate under normal conditions.

a pod auto-activation OXP
Like Auto eject. Note this can not defend you from missiles nor collisions due to NOT contain any predictive algorithms which guess whether your ship will be broken in the next moment. It just check your energy level and eject you if it is low, but if you get a large punch in one piece which reduce your energy from over the trigger level below zero then no time to detect so you still will press space.

Always worth to read through the documentation in the wiki about your OXPs to get the small but important details. ;)
