I'm just looking for hints... my Cobra Mk II is pretty battered and I don't think I can completely repair it. What kind of ships are there in the 80,000 credits range? And where to get them?
Am I right in the assumption that the "lower" you go in system security (with Anarchy being the lowest) the cheaper the ships become?
Cheap replacement ship - how to find one?

Have a look on the Wiki. Plenty to choose from, although not too much in your price range.

No. There are two factors only: rarity and techlevel. Ships can be in any shipyard in the galaxy over the required techlevel of the ship, just can take long time to find a rare ship.
Imho not worth to downgrade your ship, simply cost too much. While it is not the best for combat try to do other jobs to gather enough for repairs. Worth to learn how to avoid trouble, like save fuel (and in-game time!) with short jumps to always keep your injectors usable. Small cargo space is not a problem if you trade valuables which only take 1t space from 500kg. Parcel contracts are also good if you can run away well from clean assasins. I think in this way you will be in a good combat ship sooner than if you do a downgrade then want upgrade back once.

What Norby said (except it should be 500kg).
If you're running from assassins, and you see some Vipers, head straight for them - the poor sods might buy you enough time to escape.

I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills

Thanks Cody, I fixed the kg in the above post. More exactly without any cargo space you still can hold 499kg from each "light" cargo types, including 499999g of gems.

Worth noting that metals and gems, like parcels, stay with you if you eject.
