Flight sticks

Post by pleiadian »

After getting killed a few times as noob Jameson, an epiphany quickly occured to me: you need to get a joystick to fly these ships man.... So today I set out and got one. It's a Thrustmaster T-Flight Stick X. You can see it here: Amazon Link

I'm on Ubuntu 16.04. Oolite 1.84 detected the peripheral straight out of the box, no configuration needed. It comes with 12 assignable buttons, plus one lever for adjusting something. The stick itself can be turned slightly clockwise and anti-clockwise too. On the bottom there is a wheel which lets you adjust the resistance of the stick.

Done a first flight and I have to say that flying with that is a real pleasure. Flight maneuvers can be done without issues. Docking now became a lot easier since I now have very fine control over the rotation of the ship.

The lever is not working for some reason... I wanted to use it for speed up and down. Speed gauge "wobbles" when I assign it to that axis, which is weird. Maybe I'm missing something.

Anyways I'm wondering which flight gear you got rolling, and why? :)

Fly safe!
