Return of the sleepy pilots

Post by Cmdr Wyvern »

There must still be a coffee shortage in the Ooniverse.

Recently, I found roughly a half dozen Vipers clustered near a witchspace beacon, not moving, with one in full motion and duelling a pirate Python. I couldn't tell if the snoozing Vipers were ghosts or not.
Also, I sometimes encounter large numbers of snoozing ships near a station.

That seems to be docking computer bug. While ship is in docking state, it does not care what happens around. I don't think it is a good idea ;-)

That's a good theory, and would explain dozing ships near stations.
But the witchspace beacon is waaaaay out of docking computer range, so your theory doesn't explain the sleeping Vipers.

It could have been that the vipers had all launched their escape capsules and were abandoned ships. IIRC the ghost ships bug has been removed, they were genuine ghost ships that you could fly through.

Abandoned ships are easy to distinguish - they are white on the scanner and have no legal status.

Some of them still have a bounty on them though. It gives 50 cr to destroy an abandoned (by the remote controllers) a Thargoid robo craft - much faster than scooping. And I guess it gives a kill too..?

Sorry guys, they weren't abandoned ships. They showed live on the scanner; purple or yellow blips. The sleeper bug hasn't been completely killed, it's just not as frequent as it used to be.

I encounter ghosts on occasion, so that bug hasn't been completely killed either.

Odd thing here. I was trying to dock at a TL 14 station and saw a SuperCobra with Fugitive Status trying to dock. There were Vipers plugging away at him, but he wasn't responding and was seemingly intent on docking. I shot him down. My Status remained Clean and I got the kill.

I'm running Win XP and Oolite v1.65 with the SuperCobra OXP (and the excellent Imperial Courier OXP!!).

You can kill any offender/fugitive within the Coriolis station boundary, and it will not effect your status, just make sure you don't hit the station or a Galcop vessel, because that will!!!
