Galcop stations are not non-destructable!

Post by ArkanoiD »

Well, they survive E-bombs, Q-mines, 7 ECM hardened missiles and direct collision with carrier ship, but.. I jumped into a system, the station (Dodecahedron one) was clearly visible, so i headed to it.. but suddeny boom - and it was no more! Well, i thought it was not a station, i must mistook rock hermit for it since it was far.. But no, i came closer and found there a navigation buoy but no station. The compass behaved weird: the "square" mark leaded me away from the planet, but then just disappered when i left planet range. Still have no idea what did destroy it.

If you have Murghs' hognose-tugships installed,
it is more likely that a collision sent the station off on it's own.

These ships are more massive than they are supposed to be, their destruction in the dockingport imparts extreme momentum to the station.
It takes off so fast, the framerate of Oolite is too low to render it.

At some point it will come to a halt as it has 100thrust.
I once encountered the station near the sun.

It is not a game-buster, as long as you have an advanced space compass.
If you don't, find a hermit or scoop from the sun and try somewhere else.

Is there an easy way to find a Hermit? The only clue as far as I know is a mining vessel close by.

yep.

Or keep to the shipping lanes hoping to find an asteroid cluster.

Another sure way is to head towards big flashes, which indicate either a big battle or a miner blasting rocks.

Andvanced space compass does not help since it locks on navigation buoy not the station ;-)

uh? ....you could be right in that.

Anyhow I did once find a station floating somewhere not near the planet. and at that planet there was no more station.

Coudn't the Stations be given thrust 0 in the next version? Afterall they are stations so coudn't they be stationary?

The hrust also regulates an entities' inertia.
Massive stuff has lots of inertia.
I think if station had 0 thrust, even a collision with an adder would send it off on a trek towards the galactic core. ;)

Another option, follow a ship until it jumps out of system and piggy back it's wormhole portal.
The act of talking b*ll*cks whilst waving one's arms about wildly is referred to as testiculation.

I have noticed sometimes the station temporarily disappears when aproaching with the jump drive, and then reappears, if the compass showed a red square, then it probably was there, but not visible. Curious.
