Re: Introduce Yourself.
Well, I've already made a few posts before his, but...
I'm NEANDERTHAL, an American teenage boy.
My first experience with Elite was Frontier on a dosbox emulator about six months ago. I just found this game a few days ago. My hobbies include video games, hiking, camping, talking to girls, and working at a planetarium where I first heard about Oolite from an old British visitor. I wonder if he's around here somewhere.

I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills

I didn't do it, nobody saw me do it, you can't prove anything!

Re: Introduce Yourself.
Hey All,
So I have to admit first up that I stalked the forums for a while before deciding to join, because I'm slightly cautious of online communities. However I was rather taken aback by the friendliness and just general helpfulness of the folk here, so I decided to sign up. I don't know anybody here, but I do know some of the more influential characters by having read a few posts, and also Mr Wagner's Oolite series about Raxxla.
I've no former experience with Elite, I was just in the market for an open-world space trading game with an active community, but wasn't a P2W or Freemium or otherwise sort of MMO. After probably months of searching I finally stumbled on Oolite, which completely scratched my itch. I've been playing it for about a month now, and am totally enraptured by it. I'm a (very) novice game designer myself - my big project right now is an RPG board game. I'm looking into game design and coding as a major hobby of mine (Making it a job would be fun, but lets face it, it's impractical.) Oolite seems like a really awesome platform to launch my fledgling skills in that area. I hope the community can be of some assistance, and I hope to return that favor eventually by coming out with a few OXPs, when I get my feet under me.
Well, here we go, I'm back at Jameson status, lets see how well I can start my interwebular career on the forums.

<grins> For a bunch of pirates, smugglers, assassins, ruthless traders, cut-throats, and general ne'er-do-wells, we don't do too badly!Cmdr. Aiden Henessy wrote:I was rather taken aback by the friendliness and just general helpfulness of the folk here, so I decided to sign up.

Welcome, Aiden!
Yeah, the game industry is tough and I've heard it doesn't pay well either. But there are other areas in CS that can be fun, like automation. Making your program animate things (and it's not only about robots) can be fun too.Cmdr. Re: Introduce Yourself.
Hello community; I have played Elite on the BBC (a loaded school mate),speccy and ArcElite (emulator). All years ago.
Recently there was some talk about 'No Man's Sky' with a playstation guy and it sounded like Elite...interest reignited, I found Oolite, found a long lost pirate that lives inside me. For this, I give great thanks!
I'm playing on a pretty old netbook, with an Nvidia Ion chip, and getting 20 to 30 fps which is great; I would appreciate any tips to up the frame rate; I found disabling Windows Update to be the best tweak ever. One last question: was docking made easier, or there more visual cues?
Cheers
Mr Puds
