Well, the economy is collapsing in on itself and the political parties are imploding, but a day of celebration for British sport at least.

Satirists have issued a plea for politicians to stop being such a massive collection of half-headed cock-bongos, as a combination of RSI and worn out keyboards mean that they can’t type quick enough to keep up with the almost hourly bouts of catastrophic bellendery from Westminster.

... and now Angela Leadsom has withdrawn from the contest for Tory leader, leaving Theresa May unchallenged (cue Darth Vader music). It looks very much like Theresa May is going to lose the race not to be in charge of the UK as it goes down in flames - she was probably planning to withdraw today, but Leadsom beat her to it.

Reheat Yams - by acclamation, no less! It is at least progress - kinda!

Don't confuse "movement" with "progress" … I'm prepared to admit that Theresa May is probably less awful - or at least less deranged - than Leadsom, but I wouldn't call the possible beginning of an android invasion "progress". And we've still got to wait for Cameron's deflating corpse to be dragged out of Downing Street before any kind of actual government can be formed.

Edit: although it now looks likely that enough air has escaped from Cameron to allow him to fit through the door - his resignation is possibly imminent …

Aye well, 'tis why I said 'kinda' - it does spare us six weeks of Tory campaigning.

Meanwhile, in the Labour Party, leadership challenger (because that's what you do when your political opponents are in disarray: tear yourselves apart) Angie the Eagle seems to have adopted the campaign slogan "Argh":

No panic! Or is there any reason for her not to withdraw in the coming weeks?
