We will probably want to restrict the maximum number of cats (that is, not sell new ones if there are >=X on board)
if we add a lot more cats/pets. Otherwise we could end up with like 20-30 different cats on one ship..
Do we want that to be possible?
From what I've seen, we have a few members who like being a "crazy cat person", and have collected them all..
If you restrict the maximum, it's bound to annoy somebody.. perhaps make an optional setting for it with OXPConfig.
Another idea might be to make the frequency of SFX partly dependent on how many cats the player has.. once a certain threshold is reached (say, 3 or 4 cats), the frequency with which the SFX plays starts to increase.. take on too many cats and the caterwauling would become a cacophony..

I don't think it would be a big problem.. I have lots of other "damage fodder" equipment in my ship, and it's rare for any of it to be damaged.. 95% of the time, it's still useful equipment that gets broken.
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

The thing to do would be to find a way to put the cats on the screen periodically... (and fairly frequently) then if the player buys too many of them they'll become almost as annoying as trumbles...
LOL. I now have 7 cats and a dog aboard the Chunky Monkey. I 'broke' Stray and never got offered repairs, so I came to check on what was up with that, but now I see I'll just have to wait a bit. Good OXP, but I'm wondering if anybody's still working on it? I've read through this thread, and there's some great suggestions, so. . . update soon maybe?
Welcome, BosunBob-- now, would your name be a particle or a navy job?
I too have found this an entertaining OXP and have a stray that I've named 'Asp' roaming the Witchspace Wench. So named because I picked the cat up at the next docking after my very first combat kill, which was an Asp. Fun times.
Reports of my death have been greatly underestimated.
I'm a noob, I didn't want to come in here all "Supreme Fleet Admiral Bob", especially when inquiring about my poor, poor broken pussycat that got concussed during a hard landing. . .
Um..yeah..I think this OXP is getting a little out of hand now. I think I have problems with a load on the processor...it's even infecting other games...

I like the cats/dogs but they keep wasting the repair system charges (and not getting repaired in the process) so they must go. How can I get rid of them?
