Saving OXP's

Post by Kermitsy »

I want to get access to a ship called Grass Snake which is available in an OXP but I don't know how to get this when I'm playing Oolite. I'm running version 1.82 and have checked that I have an add on folder. Can anyone help me please

If it is not available via the Expansions Manager you will need to download the OXP. This will be a .zip file, so extract it then place the resulting .oxp folder in AddOns.
If it is quite old, be aware that it has probably not been optimised for Oolite v1.80 upwards, so may not work entirely properly. I'm not too familiar with it so a post on the OXPs thread may help to get more info.

Hi Kermitsy,

You need to unzip [wiki]RVandGS[/wiki] into your AddOns folder.
[wiki]Grass Snake[/wiki] is larger than an Anaconda (see in the image) which mean an easy target in combat.

Thanks to both for your helpful replies. I started with the Cobra and made enough to go to the Viper which gives me more cargo space but is very slow. So now I'm on a Mining Cobra and trading away steadily. I'm looking for a greater variety of ships than is available in the standard versions, that's why I've been investigating the OXP's although I still don't understand how to get access to the ships they seem to offer, even those in the Expansions Manager. So any tips would be welcomed by this complete beginner.

The player-version of whichever ship OXP you install should appear for sale in a station shipyard (F3/F3) according to the OXP's settings (chance, TL-level, etc). It might be common or rare or anywhere in-between, so patience is sometimes needed when searching for a particular ship.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

Thanks. It works! I've managed to track down the Grass Snake ship which I had managed to load into my Add on folder

Hi Kermitsy.

I did remodel the grass snake a while ago but it stalled over trying to get the texture to look right with the new model.

https://bb.oolite.space/viewtopic.php?f= ... 1&p=236312

There didn't seem to be much interest in the ship at the time but seing as you seem to like it I would be interested to hear if you like the new model and also if you see the ship as being a bit more modest in scale... or not?

Thanks.

Thanks. I enjoyed using the Grass Snake ship and did some solid trading with it. I've moved on however to a Vortex, now that I've found how to download OXP's!
I'd like to try a Star Wars ship and have downloaded the appropriate OXP but haven't come across one so far in my travels across the galaxy so I'll just have to keep looking
