What precisely is illegal?

Post by Satori »

Do I get a penalty to my legal status for... Buying Illegal Cargo? Selling Illegal Cargo? Having it in my hold when a GalCop viper flies by? Having it period?

Could someone please clarify just what is illegal?

Firearms, Slaves and Narcotics. Police ships may attack you in flight if you're carrying these goods and you may be fined when bringing them into a station.

Trading will make you an Offender and repeated trading a fugitive.

Stations may deny you permission to dock as a fugitive and police ships will attack you on sight.

As an Offender, you will be allowed to dock (but likley to be fined) and police ships will take the odd pot shot at you. Defending youself against a police attack will make you a fugitive.

Having illegal goods (above) in your hold when exiting a GalCop controlled space station.

Firing on a clean vessel within communications range of a GalCop controlled station or police vessel.

Firing on a GalCop controlled station or navigation buoy.

That would be the answer I was looking for.

So if i scoop up narcs someon else dropped and bring them into a station and sell them, do i take a penalty to legal status?

Possibley. Depends if a police ship scanned you when you were docking (I think). You pretty much always suffer a legal penalty if you buy them yourself, but not always if you scoop them. You can jetison cargo, so if you want to be squeaky clean you can dump anything dodgy you may have "found"!

I just use the docking thing where so long as you have the S, you just hit shift D and you automatically go in the station. Whee...

Thanks to everyone who helped.

Cops may still have scanned you as you approached. You just take your chances with these types of cargo!

So instead of scooping narcs, can I shoot em for bounty?

No bounty! And you can't tell what is in a cargo canister until you scoop it. If you really want to stay clean, scoop a canister and if it is criminal eject it.

No, provided you sell them before you leave the next Galcop controlled station.

Interestingly, acting like a complete ass in system space and getting in the way of other ships isn't illegal... so long as you don't fire on them.

You can nudge them, play chicken with them and everything is ok. Maybe NPC ships should be able to lodge complaints!

I think the police should be stricter. 8)

Yes, I've always been amused by how you can 'run over' a police viper in a python, or bigger, and their mates completely ignore you!!

So, which stations are GalCop controlled? Only the ones in non-anarchic systems? Everything but rock hermits and casinos?

I'm not all that far into the game, so perhaps I just haven't reached a system/galaxy where GalCop isn't the overarching political force.

All the Stations by the Main Planet are GalCop controlled, regarless of the Govenment. It is the planet the Govenment runs. The Station is sort of a GalCop Embassy. However, in Assassins.oxp some additional stations are controled by the Navy, Mafia, Triads etc! (should be up on Oosat next month).
