Ship tonnage - is 't' for metric tonne ?

This question will be stupid.

As I'm new to Elite world (well sort of - i saw F:FE on a500 long time ago - once) I would like to ask if 't' in cargo list is for metric tonne ?

Well, I'm a trader - i don't have time to unload my platinum in 'good price system' every day.

So my cargo register shows:
Gold: 527kg
Platinum: 1082kg
Load 0 of 115 t.

Hmm is it ok ? how big is 't' in Oolite ?

Confusingly, no.

The 't' in Oolite can be understood to stand for 'tun' - indicating the space for one cargo container of goods, and should be taken as a measurement of volume rather than weight.

The reasons for this are arcane and to do with perceived differences in the original game about how scooped containers are handled compared with purchased goods.

So it's not a stupid question, it's a genuine quirk of the game.
