Shift-restart. We have a new descriptions.plist in this nightly.

Doh! Yeah, I did that, but forgot about my personal descriptions.plist - all is now fine.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills

Bearing in mind, "I don't know nuffin" and what with it being nearly Christmas, I could not help but wonder whether Santa's Helpers were any where near a deployment release ? :)

Hopefully fixed with commit d98115f5. Please give us a heads up if you notice any unexpected behaviour of docking ships.

How about unexpected behaviour of fighting ships? Two bandits nose-to-nose, looping around each other such that neither could land a hit - stuck, it seemed.

I have an idea why this might be. I am about to push logging of accuracy when doing Shift+H on a target in trunk. If this happens again, can you please target both ships and Shift+H each of them, then check their accuracies?

Perhaps I could describe it better: both ships were stuck in very tight loops a short distance from each other - almost impossible to land a hit like that, though they were trying. I sat close to them for quite a while, watching the display, which continued unchanged 'til I had to move on. They were still at it when I left the scene.

Yes, this is what I have noticed when high-accuracy opponents are involved. I had one such incident during one of my "combat spectator" sessions. I spawned three light pirates against a bunch of escorted traders. Very soon there was only one left fighting against eight or so, so I thought "OK, let's help this poor chap a bit" and increased his accuracy to 10. Suddenly, he was in constant evasion mode and was doing pretty much what you saw. I imagine the tactic deployed by the AI there was continuous avoidance of fire, which made sense, given the numbers. I would imagine something similar could happen when two high-accuracy ships are trying to get in position for a successful hit against each other. The thing is, the AI will never get tired of trying and most likely will never make a mistake, while a normal pilot, after a long time avoiding fire, would be expected to collapse and make a potenitally costly error.

Those 'combat spectator' sessions can be very entertaining (though mine are by chance, of course)!

Something else I meant to mention: should Pause be available in the contracts screens? It is in most/all other docked screens.

Shift-H tells me some interesting stuff - but would I need the console to check which particular role a ship has in-game?

No, the primary role information is already in the list you have:

Behind a Python in the docking queue... it was almost in the slot when it suddenly veered away and I was instantly given clearance.
Same as happened before, and could be expected behaviour... but it was a very late change of mind. No error messages.

I think I saw this the other day - running quite an old version of trunk now though so probably not a lot of help.
I was faffing around in the aegis when I noticed a Python behind a Boa in a docking pattern. I took a screeny just before as it happens :)
Image
The Boa (you can just see it on final approach) closed that gap by around half, then just veered away for no obvious reason. So probably around 500m from the dock.
I can't give you any more info I'm afraid.
