Chaff dispenser

I have invested in this, but don't know how to use it. Please help.

Thargoid's instructions, from this thread:

From memory:

1) Buy the chaff dispenser, it will mount on an available pylon (if you ain't got one, you can't buy it).
2) Refill it with chaff (you can only do if you have the dispenser).
3) Launch, and go find someone to fire a missile at you.
4) When they do, select the chaff dispenser pylon (you have got multi-target select haven't you? ).
5) Press "t" and then "m" to activate and launch the chaff (like you would a missile).
6) Pray that the missile is dumb enough to lock onto the chaff, and off your ass.

Steps 1 & 2 done on the equipment (F3) screen whilst docked at a suitable tech-level station or carrier.

Can it be mounted instead of a missile? If so, how? I have the chaff dispenser in my available equipment, but am not sure how to mount it on a pylon (assuming a pylon is where a missile is mounted)

Buy the dispenser, this is an equipment installed within your ship.
Then buy a Chaff Refill pack, this occupy a pylon like a mine so need an empty one.

If you've bought the chaff dispenser and a refill pack, then it is automatically mounted on a pylon. I don't use the chaff dispenser myself, but I suspect the correct sequence is:
(a) During flight use the "y" key to cycle through the available missiles until the chaff dispenser is selected.
(b) Press "t" to target to incoming missile
(c) Fire the chaff with the "m" key.
