Xbox 360 control?
Hi all
Apologies if this is a silly question or been asked before. I did a search but, is it possible to get Oolite working with an Xbox 360 controller? I did a search but found only techie posts that went right over my head.
Cheers

Re: Xbox 360 control?
I believe it should be possible to set up an Xbox controller just like any other joystick from within the game. I don't have any such controllers here to test, but according to this old thread (created before joystick profiles became a thing in Oolite), it should be doable.
Re: Xbox 360 control?
Hi, I've take a look and found other posts too but, all they do is go on about "deadzones" and technical stuff I really don't understand. Can someone help in plain English?

Is your controller wired, or wireless?
Microsoft has some articles on the subject.. note that you will need to download the software, and in the case of wireless controllers, you'll need hardware (a receiver) as well.
For the special "for Windows" version of the controller:

See this article for wired controllers:

There's a fairly non-technical guide here as well:

Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

Re: Xbox 360 control?
Not really "pirating" the topic: I have a similar desire but have not been able to successfully connect my lad's XB360 (wireless but via the usb charging cable) controller. Would I be more successful with a wired XB360 controller?
Is there a cheap-ish "plug'n'play" controller covered by Oolite's existing coding?

IGNORE ME!
The previous mod. response included a link that explains the usb charger cable isn't enough and a receiver is required.
So its a wired XB360 controller for me to buy!

Re: Xbox 360 control?
I use a cheap Logitech Gamepad F310 wired usb controller. Cost around $20. Can't get the RT LT buttons to work but everything else works like a charm.

Re: Xbox 360 control?
That's the "push in thumbstick" buttons, yes? I don't use those on the PS3 (if I have to sprint I'm not a good enough fighter...) so no problems there. Thank you! You may have saved me a tenner!

Re: Xbox 360 control?
Nah the push in thumbstick buttons work. RT LT buttons on this controller are the the bottom 2 of the four buttons at the top of controller usually hit by index and middle fingers.

Re: Xbox 360 control?
I use the f310 and have all the buttons mapped. However I also use the Logitech config software (can't think of the name of the software atm though).
Re: Xbox 360 control?
Ah thanks for that phkb! Found software here. It had me switch to direct input instead of x input and boom all my buttons work.

Re: Xbox 360 control?
Brilliant!
Had enough GAME points to get the 360 Controller, which is cheaper than their 310, so a "free" controller is winging (geddit?) its way to me as I tyoe!

Have read all the responses. Is the answer basically to set the Xbox controller to replicate key presses?

Re: Xbox 360 control?
That's what I do with many of the commands on my F310 - record a particular key combo and map to a button using the Logitech software. I'm guessing a similar ability is available for the Xbox controller.
