Military mission

Post by themacman »

I'm wondering kind of what to do, so even the slightest vaguest would be nice. I've seen the new ships, I've blown them up (except the leviathan). Just finished the Ionics mission so just kind of wondering where to go.

Also I've been wanting to go to galaxy 3 since the middle of the Ionics mission, would this wreak the mission if I went there?

Once Murgh's Military Mission triggers, the stolen Military Ships can appear anywhere in any Galaxy. Just go about your ordinary buisness killing stolen Military ships when you find them. Yep, go to G3 or do other missions, won't wreak Military.oxp, it sort of runs as a feature of Oolite and the ships will pop up whatever you are doing.

When a certain number of stolen ships have been killed, you'll get an update from the Military. Stolen ships will appear as yellow on your scanner. Normal Military ships appear as blue. Don't make the mistake I did and laser up every Military ship you find!

Col. Docherty should have briefed you about the mission idea, unless you chose to reject the millitary communique (stingily not paying the 5c), or hit later which postpones a repeat of the message for probably quite a while. Then military ships will be around but won't have any effect on the unstarted mission.

No, like LittleBear explains, it shouldnt be affected by any other mission, except if they coincide, an army from another OXP could do the work for you. This bit I don't think I can fix until there's a way to own a kill, but I'd like to improve the military.oxp when I get some time, so I'm very open to suggestions.

Can't fix the death_actions poblem (had the same difficulty with the Marks in Assassins, but apart from the first victim in the retro_adder, - who I put in a very safe place - they are all so hard that it doen't really cause a problem). I don't think the chance of NPCs killing your Military ships really is a problem. Just adds a bit of "realism". Other bounty hunters are on the case as well as the player! Sure, NPCs might get the odd one or two, but it is still basically up to the player to do the deed!

EDIT : If it really bothers you, you could mention in the briefings that the player isn't the only commander on the job or up the number of ships that need to be killed to complete each stage to allow for a certain amount of NPC kills. Your ships are pretty tough so I think the risk is probabley more theoretical than real! Never noticed the problem when I played the mission, it was only when I started coding my own OXP that I saw the theroitical problem. Militray is pretty cool as it stands! 8)

Only improvement I'd suggest is to put an "unlock" code in the script, so that once the mission is complete there is a chance of your ships apperaing in the role pirate. Never see your ships since finishing the mission! (except very rarley a carrier by the W/s beacon or in witchspace and I'm too law abiding to attck them!)

I destroyed the leviathan...

Is that a problem :-)

@ Blunderbuss: No, as long as you destroy the right one. When I did military I had a similar problem as LittleBear. I saw my first military Leviathan exactly when I was looking for the hijacked one and--blew him up. I only realized my mistake when I docked afterwards and there was no final mission briefing. So I went on hunting.

@ LittleBear: The stolen military ships do continue to appear after finishing the mission. My current mission_military_fiasco_killcount is 46.

Call me dumb (no don't really), so this ship can pop up anywhere in any galaxy? Bringing up the further question of what am I still doing in G1? Mind while I'm here what other missions can I play in G1? One more question - I keep getting vaporised by a ship that has about 6 lasers firing at me, I know it's not a renagade - so what is it?

They can only turn up if the Military Mission has started. You'll have had brief from a chap in the Military explaning how they've carelessly allowed some pirates to steal some of the Military's top new ships. But yeah, once the ships have been stolen, then wherever you are there's a chance of encountering a pirate in one (they can buy GH drives too! ).

If you blow all the pirates in stolen ships away, the Military are pleased. I think then they stop appearing (or from CM's post made very unlikley to appear). Sounds like you've been blown away by a stolen Basilik! This is a mission you can do whilst getting on with your normal Oolite buisness or playing other missions. Just blast 'em as you find 'em. A Navy guy in a Military Ship shows as blue on the scanner, but a bad guy shows as yellow and has a ciminal record if you ID him.

Check the missions page of the Wiki, (this link http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/Oolite_Missions but in G1 are:-

Asteroid Storm
The Black Barron
The Long Way Around
Spyhunter
Constrictor Hunt
Tanaris Corperation

The Missions Page just tells you where the Missions are and the download links. There are no spoilers (apart from a quick one line description of what the mission is about).[/url]

IIRC the Leviathan showed up blue on the radar and had "Military" status, but when I blew it up I got the final mission briefing.
