Can't get my Naval Energy Unit repaired

Post by ffutures »

OK, I bought my D.T.T Cyclops with a naval energy unit. Which got zapped a couple of systems ago. No problem, I thought, there's a TL15 system on my route, I'll call in there for repairs.

Except that when I got there I wasn't offered repairs, I'm being offered a 2nd energy unit, which means they'll scrap the naval energy unit. Same at the TL14 system I'm now in.

The only reason for this I can think of is that for some reason the game may think I'm not entitled to a NEU; I bought the ship before I'd flow the mission that gives you NEU authorisation. However, I've since flown that mission.

The commanders I've used previously haven't had this problem, although I followed the same sequence there. Is this because it's a Cyclops, or has something changed in the game?

Needless to say I don't have a saved game with the NEU working.

The only string that seems relevant in the saved game is

<key>EQ_NAVAL_ENERGY_UNIT_DAMAGED</key>
<integer>1</integer>

Any suggestions?

You could simply remove the _DAMAGED bit (I think that works), though the game may call you a cheat in the next log. <grins>
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills

The repair bots probably can fix it, though it may need quite a number of trials. Maybe if you buy the basic energy unit, you can afterwards buy the naval one again.
Buying a ship which has equipment pre-fitted that is not available otherwise is not worth it most of the time - you end up without a basic energy unit even.

The problem is that you bought it with the ship. It sounds like you haven't yet earned the right to use this equipment. If you successfully complete the relevant core mission, you will be officially awarded one which will be repairable. Are you sure you are thinking of the right mission?

Ah, that would explain it. OK, I'll scrap it and install a second power unit instead. I'm guessing it's the supernova then?

Right. OK, I remember now, not a problem. I'm in G2, I'll wrap up my current lot of cargo contracts etc. then head off to Galaxy 3...

Well, having read the requirements for this, looks like I'm going to be lurking in galaxy 3 for a while - I need a LOT more kills first. Meanwhile I think I might start looking out for another ship with a Naval Energy Unit already fitted; I've got plenty of money, that looks a reasonable way to spend it.

Yup that will do it, I've now and then used the same idea to change my legal status.
Just remember to hold shift when reloading the game.

The log says cheat?
I've always be aware that a log exists, But never once bothered to look at it, never had reason
Now a bit scared to see how many times I've 'cheated'
Does it keep logs for each Cmdr?
At one time I had 10 on the go, now only 4, but tend only to play 2 of them.

There are two logs: "latest.log" is a record of your last session, and "previous.log" is a record of the next-to-last session. It's not created per commander, just a log of the current game session.
