I am afraid I don't understand this. Might you try to put the point in a different, clearer way, perhaps?
Assassins do not only lurk near witchpoints but also in the station aegis. Once a courier launches they follow through the wormwhole and attack, but not in the aegis yet. They are usually clean, swirl around you, don't jump away like all other types do and don't react when asking for a free ride.

Right.

Ah, you mean an assassin will follow a ship through a wormhole and then attack, as against attacking when, before going through the wormhole, the assassin and its target are in the station aegis? Right.

Thanks. As to asking for a free ride: I think I'm behind on this. Last I knew, you just jumped into someone else's wormhole (except for a special case in interstellar space). Is there a way of asking now?

Asking for a free ride is OXP stuff; and assassins will also follow you out of the aegis, then attack when clear of witnesses.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

Not entirely given up then Cody? Or just on me? Seriously: I'd appreciate some guidance on how to allocate roles - the new Oolite roles - in my OXP's shipdata.

<grins> I know zilch about allocating roles, I'm simply a player! Someone like spara or Norby could help, perhaps - spara has recently sorted the roles for Griff's shipset.

Another thing about assassins: they buzz you in the aegis while you're waiting to dock, trying to provoke.
I've even been gently nudged by them on occasion - and taken a few out by ramming (which is legal).

[shameless plug]
[EliteWiki] BroadcastComms MFD allows you to ask for anyone going to your destination. And [EliteWiki] Station Dock Control allows you to see ships docked in a station and their destination, and sometimes you can request a launch slot immediately after one of them, so you can follow them through their wormhole.
[/shameless plus] :D

As for the role allocation, I think for assassins its assassin-light, assassin-medium, and assassin-heavy. You decide which, of course, and how often it should be used.

Edit: Ah, I see on your other thread that the issue isn't what names to use, but that not enough ship OXP's are using the roles, resulting in an inbalance of a particular type of ship. Sorry!

phkb, Cody

There's a fair bit of useful information in there. So thanks! (Thanks, especially, to phkb for the OXP links.)

Cody: I'd got the impression you were simply all over the boards; from that, I'd mis-inferred that you were deep into the coding. But . . what is this?
Imagined, instigated, and put together by Cody – I didn’t do it, nobody saw me do it, you can’t prove anything!
But I think we can prove something . . !

EDITED: for a few things.

Ah yes, the [EliteWiki] Green Gecko - so I can tinker with a plist, but I ain't done any coding for over twenty years!

@Cody

Shades of Pratchett (specifically, Nobby Nobbs?) in your original denial there.

You are well out of it. It's such a pain. Well, it is if you try to do ambitious things and/or you are learning as you go along - both of which are true of me. Look at my Interstellar Tweaks OXP. (Well, hopefully, by this stage, don't look at it for working-it-out-as-I-go-along, for it works now; but lord knows it took quite a few iterations.)

But: must go to sleep now!

You're misremembering.. that quote was of Bart Simpson.
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

Yup that was Bart.
Nobby Nobbs wouldn't be aware he was being implicated.

Was it? I've never watched the Simpsons, so I didn't pick it up there. I reckon it's an old expression.
