Hitchhiking
Hi all
Been playing intermittently and have my Cobra III where I want it, kit wise. Spending some time building a pot of credits and zapping fugitives.
I've seen several "I'm going to xxxxxxx sector, anyone need a lift?" messages. Is this atmosphere or can you actually take the offer up? How? I wasn't aware you could even converse with other fliers?

Yep, you can follow them - and dive through any wormholes you see.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills

A Wormhole Scanner can be useful at a busy station to make sure you get the right one, as there can be a few around.

Hitchhiking is a great way to get about - and tactically, it can be very useful.Hullblazer wrote:It's as easy as that?

Re: Hitchhiking
Another useful OXP for hitching a lift on another ship's wormhole is Broadcast Comms-- you can actively ask if anyone's heading your way and ships have a chance (based on their role, the way phkb has it set up) to reply and offer to let you tag along.
Reports of my death have been greatly underestimated.

Even better. Fuel's not expensive but it'll make a tankful go farther!

It's also a great help to find a wormhole heading in the right direction when you are on a parcel run.Hullblazer wrote:Even better. Fuel's not expensive but it'll make a tankful go farther!
Just bear in mind that the hole only stays open for a limited time.

Mandatory for anyone taking cargo/parcel/passenger contracts or journeys in general. The advanced nav array is mentioned generally, but this one isn't, albeit it's much more important.Venator Dha wrote:A Wormhole Scanner can be useful at a busy station to make sure you get the right one, as there can be a few around.

Re: Hitchhiking
It's always worth looking for a wormhole going the right way, especially if you're headed somewhere that'll leave you low on fuel; that way, if there's a misjump you'll still have enough fuel to jump on to your destination. Say you're making a 6 LY jump, you're stuffed if you misjump and the nearest system is 2LY away. But if you're following someone else and they misjump you've still got a full tank and can jump out again while they're stuck there and probably being shot up by Thargoids.

In that case, the 'mule' would almost certainly follow you through your wormhole to safety!ffutures wrote:But if you're following someone else and they misjump you've still got a full tank and can jump out again while they're stuck there...
