That's right, burst my bubble why don't you...spud42 wrote:i did a quick calculation when i saw the first isue in our newsagents in Australia. the first issue was $5 the second $10 then all the rest were $15. came to around $1500 for a printer that i could buy as a kit for under $1000... needless to say i didnt buy it.
3D printing is evolving so fast that by the time you had all the parts assembled for this printer it would be 3 or 4 generations old....

Re: Thoughts on technology
now this place seemed better. http://3dprint-au.com/3d-printing/pricing/
for my oogle model at 99mm x 37mm x 13mm model $14 ...
then shipping and GST brought it to $28.78 AUD.
but printed in nylon. SLS (Selective Laser Sintering) 0.15 mm layers so should have good detail....

I remember watching the guy that invented the 3D printer explain why he made the driver code freeware. He said something about printing up the parts to make your own printer? Thought at the time that was a kinda catch 22 thing.
A couple of years ago I shoped around in Perth WA to convert my 35mm photo slides to digital, cheapest quote I got was $AU12/slide, $80 for batchies of ten and sliding scale for 50, 100.
Little projector thing to slide my digi camera into, couple of hundred $'s
My slides still live in boxes at the back of the cupboard.
LOOK OUT!!!

Re: Thoughts on technology
Reasonable quality slide scanners are fairly cheap nowadays, Alex. Never pay someone else to do it, unless you literally only have one slide.
In your heart, you know it's flat.

Re: Thoughts on technology
Only have a few hundred left from the repeated culling over the years All from UK and Europe. I was lucky, well not so much so I was right into photograpy and could see where it was going, sold all my gear just before digi cams became main stream. And a 1Mb pic was huge
Will re-look at scanners though, Thanks.

Re: Thoughts on technology
All of my Epson scanners for the last 10 years or so have had a negative/slide holder and the results are very good indeed.
