Oolite... Trailer?
Hi to all,
I played a lot with Elite, many years ago (my computer was a Commodore-64). This is why I find that Oolite is a wonderful idea!
I have seen several trailers of "Elite: Dangerous", some are really beautiful and impactful, but... I believe that even with Oolite you could make a nice trailer!
Unfortunately my knowledge of the game is still very limited, but I think that an experienced user could do great things! No one ever thought?
Regards,
Roberto.

Hi from a tiny fraction of all!carotino wrote:Hi to all,

There are actually quite a lot (a lot, a lot, and many more besides) of fan-made videos, video reviews, and other, er, videos on Youtube for Oolite. It's one of the things that first brought the game to my attention, as it happens. While none of them (as far as I know) is an Oofficial Oolite Trailer, there's still a lot of people showing off the game already!
Welcome to the forum, Carotino!
Reports of my death have been greatly underestimated.

Thanks for the welcome.
I (also) have discovered Oolite on Youtube and, after playing a little, I think that has nothing to envy to the commercial software "Elite: Dangerous", indeed!
The OXZs are an ingenious idea, they are The Key to an exponential improvement of the game.
There are one videos of "rivals", which I think can be a model for a possible trailer for Oolite:

Thx again for the attention.

I love that the vid that comes on next after that one debunks it completely and points out how divorced it is from real game play.carotino wrote:Thanks for the welcome.

It would be nice to be able to point to one Oolite video that actually tells a story, or is more than just a demonstration of graphics etc., for the article I wrote on fanlore.org - if anyone can point me at a good one I'd be grateful. At the moment it doesn't really say much about fan activities apart from actual game development. Some fanfic recommendations would also be nice.

Re: Oolite... Trailer?
In the good old days of 1.74 I did make a trailer. Nothing Hi res but it was nice at the time.

I think I can do much better nowadays especially with help from the camera drones.oxp. But I don't really have time for it at the moment.

Re: Oolite... Trailer?
I am actually considering to make an Oolite trailer if I get into that epic school with state of the art software and hardware.
But I might try something in blender.

Re: Oolite... Trailer?
I've made a video using Oolite resources. Not a trailer as such, but a very basic use of the views to make something watchable. I used it as a closing video for my kickstarter.

Blender is pretty good for video making - I used it to make the intros for my twitch streams.Paladin Tux wrote:I am actually considering to make an Oolite trailer if I get into that epic school with state of the art software and hardware.

Why not doing it in-game?

Re: Oolite... Trailer?
It would still be made in-game. What Selezen is referring to, is that Blender is also an excellent video editor, not just a 3D modelling program.Svengali wrote:Why not doing it in-game?
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied
