Does anyone else kill the 'Mass locker?'
Quick question:
Does anyone else engage the unfortunate Python, Adder, or whatever other piece of scum that 'Mass locks' your Torus Drive?
I do. Plus, if I'm lucky, I get some free cargo in the end.

Throw me on the list. I'm in a Serpent-Class Cruiser and it's faster to 1-shot that annoying Krait/Fer-De-Lance/Sidewinder/etc with my Kruger Battle Artillery Cannon than it is to fly past it.

There should be some penalty or reward for that. Such as if you are suspected responsible for innocent traders missing in action, they don't come to your aid if you cry or don't open wormwholes for you (that should really hurt). While if you've always been friendly they are more likely to open wormwholes for that long jump you need. Especially if you help against pirates.

Nice play - your ship is about 10 times larger than a Cobra Mark III (2020t vs 215t) and 80 times than a Sidewinder (25t), not a surprise that can make his way if needed. For better balance I suggest to put shields on NPCs with [wiki]CustomShields[/wiki] and award more IQ with [wiki]Skilled NPCs[/wiki].X wrote:I'm in a Serpent-Class Cruiser
[wiki]VariableMasslock[/wiki] is an alternative peaceful solution where you have a chance to avoid incoming ships before masslock. In this case I recommend [wiki]DeepSpacePirates[/wiki] to avoid the dead empty space outside the main lanes.

Playing Oolite, never. Playing Elite 30 years ago, quite often. I even engaged the vipers dogging me. Why not now? I'm so old I don't feel the need to hurry things along.MSA-S23 wrote:Quick question:

My-oh-my, bloodthirsty and impatient lot, you folks are. Hope I never have to be in front of you in a supermarket line!
(Hint, MSA-S23, get outta the space lane. Jet perpendicular to the witchpoint to main station buoy lane for about twenty seconds and /then/ orient on the main station. You'll come in on a path with almost no traffic.)

So I should get a reward for attempting to save a fellow courier in an Adder from a bunch of assassins last night, yes? Cool!Anonymissimus wrote:There should be some penalty or reward for that.
@cim: it's nearly always an Adder that I encounter being assailed by assassins - correct behaviour?
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

Probably the rest of the courier types have injectors and can run away fast enough that you rarely get to intervene?Cody wrote:@cim: it's nearly always an Adder that I encounter being assailed by assassins - correct behaviour?

Tough work in an Adder, if it can't mount injectors - yet the player Adder can mount them (admittedly at the expense of 3TC).cim wrote:Probably the rest of the courier types have injectors and can run away fast enough that you rarely get to intervene?

Would it surprise you to know that I'm a (relatively) peaceful miner? Fully kitted Xarik Spaceplane's in Hyperdock while I try to build up cash. Torn on whether to move up to a Caduceus or keep going as a Carrier. Mining with Miner Pods, Cargo Shepherd and Escort deck is surprisingly fun; especially when less-than-legal status means I'm more or less relegated to Anarchy sectors so I can save.Norby wrote:Stuff.
I do have Variable Masslock, it's just that between Random Hits, Galactic Navy, Deep Space Dredgers, Total Patrol, Jaguar Company, Pirate Coves, Assassins, along with a gamut of other ship OXZs; the space lanes are getting really crowded.

There is.. but there have to be police witnesses to the event.Anonymissimus wrote:There should be some penalty or reward for that.
Total Patrol probably isn't really necessary any more.. the core game now adds patrols to all three routes on its' own.X wrote:Total Patrol

Sure. But most of the time the cop's don't show up when I really need them. And the legal status is cleared to quickly.Diziet Sma wrote:There is.. but there have to be police witnesses to the event.Anonymissimus wrote:There should be some penalty or reward for that.
For instance, there seems to be a reputation amongst bounty hunters the player has, as when I accidentally killed some, neutral ones started to become aggressive towards me. And assassins ... "you are making powerful enemies here". (what should I do, they even shoot down escape pods and won't let me go. Even assaulted me in the aegis.) Albeit the effect didn't last long. So there should be something more than just the legal status in case the cops show up.
Well, for being successful with that, some reputation amongst couriers could be increased and make them more likely to do the same for you when you're overwhelmed by 3 packs or more. I like to shoot down the vicious scum on sight even if I'm not attacked. Most of the time I am anyway.Cody wrote:So I should get a reward for attempting to save a fellow courier in an Adder from a bunch of assassins last night, yes? Well, you can always try your hand at making an OXP that changes things to the way you want them.. that's how all the other OXPs came about..Anonymissimus wrote:Sure. But most of the time the cop's don't show up when I really need them. And the legal status is cleared to quickly.

And there's plenty here willing to assist if you get stuck or have problems.

A loose-knit Guild of Couriers? Why should Seedy Space-Bars have all the fun? I know couriers are all pretty much freelance, but some loyalty to the profession might be fun to see.Diziet Sma wrote:Well, you can always try your hand at making an OXP that changes things to the way you want them.. that's how all the other OXPs came about..Anonymissimus wrote:Well, for being successful with that, some reputation amongst couriers could be increased and make them more likely to do the same for you when you're overwhelmed by 3 packs or more. If possible, I always go to the assistance of fellow couriers - often at some cost.Layne wrote:I know couriers are all pretty much freelance, but some loyalty to the profession might be fun to see.
