Well thanks guys.
Really do love that.
Now got copies of 1.65 ( the first oolite I got after the original Elite) and 1.72. Had heaps of fun with that.
I had asked a couple of time over a few years about older copies, Alas, not here often enough to really keep up.
Also must add;
Older slower machines really don't keep up with Oolite. I've tried.
Win 98 played 1.65. Had to get XP to play 1.72 then 1.76, that was more or less the limit for XP, even with a better graphics card.
Some of us still have old slow machines;
>1.8GHz CPU
>= 1G ram
on board graphics and sound.
The older versions work great there. Also the game play was amazing.
Currently using;
Ooolite 1.80
2.?GHz cpu
2G ram
1G graphics card
on board sounds
individual oxp/oz's Stored in a seperate file incase I don't like the upgrades.
Noo tell me..
What other game in history has given that sort of flexability?
Thanks to all you uploading Ooliters.
p.s.
Destroyed 3 joysticks in last 10 years. Buy good ones, they last a bitty longer than the keyboards
p.p.s
Still don't like yaw control, takes out my sense of flight. No banking a turn with yaw in space.
Has anyone came across a comparable game?

Dump Windoze, install Linux with LXDE on the old, slow machine, and see how you go then. Betcha you get far better Oolite performance out of that old hardware. After all, cim develops/plays Oolite 1.83 on an old clunker computer. The reason he can do so? It runs Linux.Alex wrote:Older slower machines really don't keep up with Oolite. I've tried.

Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied
