He is blaming his guides, says he did it all legal and relied on the guides. Permits paid etc....

not saying i agree with this or with hunting in general but there are always at least 2 sides to a story and so far we only have the one side.....

It is possible that for a quick payoff the guides took an easy option.....
That's fair but I would retort by saying if you strip everything else away from this, all the morality, the emotion, pain and loss. He is possibly the WORST hunter I've ever seen, heard of or read about. Using a crossbow on a lion? Really? They don't have the velocity to do the necessary internal damage to kill the animal outright, on what 85-90% of the animal? Your talking heart or brain anywhere else and that animals going to suffer. And it did, for two straight days. The fact remains he's bad at killing cleanly and humanely. He can't even pick the right tool for the job!

Now some people aren't going to like this next bit but, on the farm we shot vermin and animals sometimes needed dispatching if they were sick or for food. We didn't impale them then throw them in a hedge for a day or two. Quick and clean. No suffering. On several fundamental levels this dude failed. He failed to do his homework, he failed to check the permits, he failed to hunt in a professional way.

I pray he's a better dentist.

The Darwin Awards, of course..
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

I thought it was a crossbow at first, but think it was actually a bow and arrow - there's a pic somewhere with him by a rhino, and that is a serious bow (I think) he has.
He also has previous, for killing a bear outside of a hunting zone in the US. My personal opinion of him, and other trophy hunters? <spits>
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

Not to worry. I expect as a dentist, he kills 'em quick and clean.

I'll polish 'em off.

i agree he is negligent in not double checking etc and a por shot.

I did sport archery for many years with a compound bow.. never hunted anything other than cardboard targets, though i did try foam 3D targets once but didnt like it......it really is a fun sport and like golf and other solo sports if you miss the target you have no one to blame but yourself..

with a bow if he was close enough to see the lion for a shot then he should have been able to see the collar. if not he should not have shot.

i personally think he is a jerk , all i was trying to say is i prefer to reserve my judgment till i have both sides of the story.
Arthur: OK. Leave this to me. I'm British. I know how to queue.
OR i could go with
Arthur Dent: I always said there was something fundamentally wrong with the universe.
or simply

That's cool. You can never have too many perspectives but perspectives are subjective. The evidence suggests at best a deep incompetence, at worst a sadistic mind.
