Unreacheable systems...
They seem a bit academic really if you can't get there without using an add on or ending your game stuck in a system you can't get away from having used your Galactic Hyperdrive to get there in the first place. .. Unless someone knows different of course

You can cross the Great Rift to the Rift Worlds in G7 without any OXPs - the other unreachables do require OXPs.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills

Re: Unreacheable systems...
The unreachable systems are just legacies from the original Elite's galaxy generation. I understand Bell and Braben went through a bit of checking to make sure there weren't /too/ many systems in each galaxy that were out of range, but with a procedural generation system it was inevitable there'd be a few.
Reports of my death have been greatly underestimated.

Re: Unreacheable systems...
They are all reachable without OXPs.. though some will require the use of a strategically located Galactic Hyperdrive jump from the previous chart to do so.. however, there are two unreachables (the Beanxeat and Qutius group in G6, and Oresrati in G8), which have no system of high enough TL to buy another GalDrive in order to leave.. effectively making them the Hotel Californias of the game.Cody wrote:You can cross the Great Rift to the Rift Worlds in G7 without any OXPs - the other unreachables do require OXPs.
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

Aye, true enough! They were always 'the unreachables' thirty years ago.

The default galdrive mode without OXPs is "nearest connected system", though.Diziet Sma wrote:They are all reachable without OXPs.. though some will require the use of a strategically located Galactic Hyperdrive jump from the previous chart to do so..
Re: Unreacheable systems...
Thanks to randomly appearing NPCs in interstellar space, it might be possible to reach Oresrati in G8 using just the core game...but it will likely be extremely hard to do so!Diziet Sma wrote:They are all reachable without OXPs.. though some will require the use of a strategically located Galactic Hyperdrive jump from the previous chart to do so.. however, there are two unreachables (the Beanxeat and Qutius group in G6, and Oresrati in G8), which have no system of high enough TL to buy another GalDrive in order to leave.. effectively making them the Hotel Californias of the game.

I'd wondered about that. Do those NPCs have a full fuel load?Switeck wrote:Thanks to randomly appearing NPCs in interstellar space, it might be possible to reach Oresrati in G8 using just the core game...

Yes, seems they usually do have a full fuel load...though don't ask me how!

Gotta love the quirks of hyperspace! Yet for their intended purpose, they'd only need 3.6ly of fuel, yes?Switeck wrote:Yes, seems they usually do have a full fuel load...though don't ask me how!

Re: Unreacheable systems...
You'd think there's no way to get further away from a system in interstellar space than 3.6 LY using misjumps...but the route I discovered to reach the unreachable systems in Galaxy Chart 3 at one point placed me 5.2 LY away from any system. That was done mainly using misjumps of less than 50% total distance. The same trick shaved a misjump off the route to Oresrati in Galaxy Chart 8...though there I think the player's ship was always within 3.6 LY of a system.

Re: Unreacheable systems...
You can save all your fuel by creating a misjump while entering an existing wormhole. This does take time lurking around a main station to find a trader creating such a wormhole.

Now that's interesting, I never thought of that, though presumably you must time hitting the up arrow with the very instant you enter the wormhole. You can save all your fuel by creating a misjump while entering an existing wormhole. It does require good timing, yes... and some patience!Duggan wrote:... though presumably you must time hitting the up arrow with the very instant you enter the wormhole.

...Which is why I created Misjump Inducer OXP, so I can enter a wormhole from any angle.
