I'll do that - got the text handy, or must I download and unpack the OXP?
Great, much appreciated. Here is mission.plist holding majority of the texts: https://app.box.com/s/sudp9drillx9ivvi4lpyjv2g7b8jedvz. Descriptions are mostly untouched but here's descriptions.plist anyway: https://app.box.com/s/ak9byex2axfljn333dk0e1p60nvbjq49.

Mission text for manifest screen is mostly dynamic and therefore it's parsed inside the script:
Pay 30 000 credits to the Black Monk Monastery at Rexebe in 239 hours.
And equipment description says:
Highly condensed blessed quirium for the witchspace engines. Fill your tank with special Holy Fuel that will last for 50 % longer.

Cool - back later!
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

Very little needed doing - a few commas inserted, a few typos fixed, and some decapitalisation (very apt). Here and here.

I've never used the OXP, but I love the style of those texts.

Thanks, I'll put them in. And yes, flavor is everything in this OXP.

...and done. Version 2.1.1 includes texts proofread by Cody.

<grins> There's always one that gets missed! Just like with bugs, there is always at least one typo.

I installed the newest version of Black Monks (or at least the latest version available through the in-game manager) and found a monastry and docked with it and, to my disappointment, there was no 'monl gibberish'! No mission screen or anything similar. There was this in the log:

Code: Select all

[oxp-standards.error]: Mission screens should not be used while in flight
Also, Black Monk gunships labelled as 'station defense' were fighting navy ships, and hence had fugitive station, but when I attacked the monastry (for giving me no gibberish!) I got tagged as a fugitive. (I destroyed it, though . .)

Sorry to report these problems!

Oolite 1.83.0.6559 (trunk), 64-bit, Windows.

Thou must press F4 when docked to commune with the Monks.
OXPS : The Assassins Guild, Asteroid Storm, The Bank of the Black Monks, Random Hits, The Galactic Almanac, Renegade Pirates can be downloaded from the Elite Wiki here.

Ah. Of course. Forgive me, brother. I most culpably neglected, in my poverty (or rather in my vile lack of poverty - in my vile liquidity) - The holy Fourth Function Key (Of Debt [. . or something!]).

F4 does appear within the Oolite Reference Sheet as a keypress that will 'list available interfaces'. So fair enough, I suppose, although I'd prefer a mission-screen-type-thing of the type that (in the good old days) one used to get. Also, there's that log error to consider, I feel. But I'll try to commune with the Black Monks in the way you suggest, and will report back if anything is awry.

Awesome to see this OXP brought back to life!

That said, Cody missed a couple of items, there were a number of commas missing, etc.. I've fixed these up, and while I was at it, took the opportunity to change a few more words to their archaic versions, as well as a couple of other minor changes that just seemed to 'work better'.

'your' changed to 'thy'.
'covert' changed to 'covet'
'you' changed to 'thou'
'is'/'are' changed to 'art'
'has' changed to 'hath'
'have' changed to 'hast'
'not to' changed to 'to not'
'on' changed to 'upon'
'will' changed to 'wilt' or 'shalt'
'shall' changed to 'shalt'
'should' changed to 'shouldst'
'would' changed to 'wouldst'
'chose' changed to 'choose'
'earlier' changed to 'sooner'

The updated plists can be found here:

<grins> You found the deliberate mistakes - cool! I was tempted to tinker with the word-style, but I exercised restraint - it can get out of control.

Oh, I exercised some restraint too.. could easily have gotten a lot worse!

As an aside: ever read Mason & Dixon by Thomas Pynchon? All written in old-style language - a very good read, highly recommended.
Pynchon employs an exaggerated version of the spelling, grammar, and syntax of an actual late 18th century document

Thank you brothers. I'm currently on a pilgrimage that will end in two weeks. Then I'll return to my shrine and shall apply the changes to the texts.

Pilgrim UK_Eliter points that there is no welcome anymore when visiting a monastery. The great minds that shape the Ooniverse have spoken that such behaviour should be avoided and interfaces should be used instead. But a onetime welcome would be nice and the slight misbehaviour would be tolerable. So, brother LittleBear, if I might trouble you once more. Could you please write a onetime welcome page telling the wandering spacefarers about the monastery and it's services, pilgrimages and holy fuel?

The error pilgrim UK_Eliter has seen is a strange one and needs some meditating when I return to my shrine.

No.. first I've heard of it.. I'll have to check it out..

Speaking of such, have you read James Blish's Doctor Mirabilis? It's the second part of his After Such Knowledge trilogy.. and is an historical novel about the medieval proto-scientist, Roger Bacon. Linguistically speaking, the story is a medieval feast.
