Planetary landing capability...

Post by ffutures »

...doesn't seem to be working properly in 1.82

You get the usual messages to wait for clearance etc., but no matter how slowly you go in, the temperature rises rapidly, the shields go down, and kaboom. I can't see any errors in the log, as far as I can tell the OXP (planetfall) is loading normally.

Yes, external heat shielding is fitted and undamaged. There's nothing at all in the log to explain it, no error messages at all.

1.82 does have (in effect) much more planetary atmosphere heat effect, so the final approach will need to be much slower - but it should still be possible. I don't have Planetfall installed, but I was able to ram Lave in a basic Cobra III without overheating first. Final approach was probably at around 5% speed.

If you come in too fast and get too hot, do a complete stop, wait for the heat to disperse, then proceed more slowly.

I tested planetfall on 1.83 and landing worked fine.

Just approach slowly.

OK, I'll give it another try.

OK, managed it once I'd realised how slow I had to go.

Unfortunately there's another problem - there's now nothing for sale on the surface, apart from ship repairs, and all cargo prices are set to zero so you can't sell anything. Rather defeats the object of landing.

The planetfall markets won't have been updated to the new 1.82 market format yet.

OK, that makes sense. Might as well forget about it for now then, unless there's some easy fix for it.

Post it in the OXP's thread - here.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!
