Ah well, they let the house this afternoon. They shouldn't have, because it was over-priced. (I was sure it would stay empty for a few more weeks until they lowered the rent.)
I don't like the look of my ostensible new neighbour, a moderately attractive young woman on her own. That doesn't ring true. I suspect it will be just her on the lease, but in reality either a whole family of deadbeats or her and a druggy boyfriend. The only reason people turn up alone to house viewings is because the rest of their household are scarily unsightly.

how about, just popping over there, with a nice box of chocolates in a "welcome to the neighbourhood" kind of way and try and ascertain the lie of the land.
I feel we're making a bee line for the "worst case" scenarios here.

Actually they didn't. That young woman fooled me with her enthusiasm: taking photos, leaving then coming back for another look after the real estate fellow left, etc.
But they finally let it this week, and my new neighbour arrived about half an hour ago. A bogan single mum in denim miniskirt and pink hoody with similarly dressed toddler in tow. Yay!
I hate Australia. I hate the breedocracy, I hate the landlordism, and I hate the boganism. (I'm so filled with hate, I feel a change of avatar coming on. Goes off to google Richard Dawkins.)

It took me a little googling and reading, but I think I have decoded your sly allusion, Smivs.
“Indeed, organizing atheists has been compared to herding cats, because they tend to think independently and will not conform to authority. But a good first step would be to build up a critical mass of those willing to ‘come out,’ thereby encouraging others to do so. Even if they can’t be herded, cats in sufficient numbers can make a lot of noise and they cannot be ignored.”
So:
- Richard Dawkins is one of the four most famous people named Richard in the history of the world!?
In the history of the interweb!
No mention of Richard I 'The Lionheart' , Nixon, Attenborough, Wagner (and given WBs current 'when' you'd think that Richard Burton would be up there, though probably not an 'ugly' pussycat )
I've been here in WA 25 odd years and still haven't figured out what a "Bogan" realy is?
Clarification would be nice.
As for the plants. Should have just taken them anyway, when you had the chance. Could always return them if asked.
The roo paws are native so not likely to die off. Not in the middle of winter anyhoo.
I have a friend in a western suburb. Over the 30 or so years I've known her she has taken over the whole length of the street with her plants/trees, most of which are edible fruit/nut barers. The council never ask but water them as though they were put there by themselves.
In your situ I wouldn't see it as theft, just perservation. And if you planted them in your own front yard, helping the overall look of your street. No harm.
LOOK OUT!!! OOPS.. "Press Space" Commander
If you do not see "Press Space" more often than you want.. Your not trying!
