Oolite and Elite entries on fanlore.org

Post by ffutures »

fanlore.org is a wiki for people interested in the history etc. of fandoms, with an emphasis on fanfic and other activities, which include game modding.

I've created pages for Oolite and Elite there, I'd be grateful if people could let me know if I've got anything horribly wrong. Or edit them yourself, of course!

Mods - please move this if I should have posted it elsewhere!

Seems a good summary. One minor point
but it is possible to select a "strict Elite compatibility mode" which handles game play identically.
In 1.80 and later, this just disables OXPs ... mainly as an easy "does this happen without OXPs" debugging method.

In previous versions it did change some core game rules to be a bit closer to Elite's - no yaw, reduced equipment selection, minimum forward speed, no contracts, a few other minor bits - but there were still some quite major divergences with any version of Elite, such as the ability to hitchhike on wormholes, dockable rock hermits with markets, and various scale and weapon parameter differences.

OK, thanks, I'll change it.

I've added a mention of the Elite Encounters RPG on the Elite page. Should it be on the Oolite page too? I'm not sure I should create a separate page for it before it goes on sale.

Thanks for mentioning the RPG, ffutures. Most appreciated. :-)

Although nothing is set in stone at the moment, the Elite RPG can cross the boundary between Elite lore and Oolite lore because it's up to the group to decide which flavour of Elite universe they like best.

It might be worth mentioning it with the caveat that it may contradict elements of Oolite's "lore", which is based on the original Elite's interpretation of galactic life (sentient alien species, galactic hyperdrives, galaxy maps etc).

I'll create a page for the RPG when it goes on sale and you have the details finalised.

This really needs someone to write a page for Elite: Dangerous, but it won't be me, I really don't want to get into online gaming.
