Hello all,
I've just stumbled on Oolite very recently and have been having a blast reliving my youth in an updated fashion!
However, some of the planet descriptions aren't as I remember them back on the BBC B Elite (1984 vintage).
Although it is more than likely that I am suffering a memory lapse, I wanted to ask the question here for knowledgeable forumites: Are the planet descriptions in Oolite a faithful representation of that in the original 1984 release?
Are Oolite planet descriptions faithful to 1984 Elite?

Welcome aboard, Commander - and to answer your question: yes!
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills

They're mostly identical. A few of them differ slightly because of minor differences in how particular random strings are processed - see the end of [wiki]Random_number_generator[/wiki] for details.

Very interesting link - thanks for posting. The alioth wiki looks like an absolute goldmine, and I feel a bit foolish for posting here rather than checking that first
Thanks all for the helpful replies, and especially the warm welcome!

G'day CMDR Braeburn, and welcome aboard!
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied
