Missing target identification

Hi Folks

I've just upgraded to a Cobra Mk3 XT, and lost the ability to see the type and rating of a target that I get in my sights. Which extra piece of equipment provides this?

I've got the enhanced navigational system and also the multi-targetting array.

Hi Brian - you need a [wiki]Scanner Targeting Enhancement[/wiki].

Hey - many thanks for that. Just need to fond a tech level 12 planet nearby...

PS How do you operate without it? I check ID on craft that I come across, and generally spot the baddies before they go red. i can then fire off a missile if I fancy a go, or perhaps just run away!!

Carefully, cautiously and nervously. :D If you've got Random Ship Names installed, you can sometimes get a hint from the name: violent pilots often (but not always) give their ships aggressive, or at least boastful, names. Which is not to say you can't get attacked by the dread pirate vessel the SS Pink Primrose ...

I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

I seem to recall a very rare custom skin that appears in Smivs' Classic Ships Variety Pack...

Yes, ships that are missing their textures seem to show up as a nice, hot pink.

This can also happen if your graphics card doesn't support the requisite shaders. My laptop can't do the shaders KSP uses for atmospheric re-entry effects.. so the spaceship temporarily turns pink instead of glowing red with flames, until it slows down and gets deep enough into the atmosphere that the effects shut off.
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

Probably the most common cause of 'pink ship syndrome' is case-sensitive errors, for example where the shipdata materials entry starts with a lower-case letter but the image file name starts with upper-case.
Of course someone might have just made a pink ship! :wink:
