Re: Introduce Yourself.
Hello Layne and welcome aboard.
This is my totally unofficial old oxp archive that has some oxps that have have broken links or have disappeared from wiki. You can get some of the oxps you're looking for there. It looks like I have lost my copy of the Old Ships 2010 though , but I'm sure pagroove will put it up again when he notices the link is dead. Or maybe he has taken it down to update it .
A word of warning. These are old oxps that have not been updated for Oolite 1.80. Because of that they should be considered to be at least slightly broken. Use at your own risk.

Re: Introduce Yourself.
Many and much and some and profuse thanks, Spara, these are just what I'm looking for and a touch over.
Reports of my death have been greatly underestimated.
Re: Introduce Yourself.
Hi All,
Been playing Elite since '86 on the C=64. Still have all of it except the ship ID chart and the keyboard overlay.
I was sucked in by the 'expanded universe' the manual and novella created. I went to all the planets mentioned in the texts, of course I never found anything unusual in any of them. It's great to be able to download the OXPs and go see the Tionisla graveyard and other sights.

Re: Introduce Yourself.
G'day CdrC64, and welcome aboard!
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied
Re: Introduce Yourself.
I'm particularly fond of the additions of Rock-Hermits, and in some oxps, dredgers and other 'legends' from the Elite mythos.CdrC64 wrote:Hi All,

Enjoy the sights!

Re: Introduce Yourself.
Ok, a bit late maybe, but a few words about me =:-D
I played Elite on C64 for quite a time, but did not manage too much. Clumsy as I was then (similar to today ) I was too often too slow for real kick-ass.
Nevertheless it was fun.
Later I somehow bought Elite: Gold for PC, probably because I remembered Elite from C64, but forgot about this fact. I must have been distracted somehow. Can't really remember playing it.
I am working with computers for more than 25 years now, 20 of them also with Linux. I don't have a private Windows PC since 15 years ago, and am into Gentoo Linux for 10 years now. At work I have to do with different flavours of closed Operating Systems and sometimes even with installations which are restricted beyond Bullsh*t level.
I found Oolite a few weeks ago and was surprised - the stability of the game itself, the boldness in reminding the player of the old Elite game while keeping it par with current PC gaming hardware - and it runs on Linux!
Currently I am in preparation of moving to a larger apartment, and guess what? When rummaging through my CD/DVD stash to shred some old backup CDs/DVDs and throw away some old originals I don't use anymore and don't think worth keeping, I found the aforementioned Elite: Gold CD
Currently I am flying the halfway upgraded, very reliable Cobra Mk3 "Qismat" with Escort fleet of 4 large escorts, somewhere in the area around Xexedi cluster and the space lanes 1 and 2 in Galaxy 1. Last bounties: two Thargoid warships after a Witchspace malfunction. Luckily the GalNavy was also there, with a Behemoth Type 4 and LOTS of Vipers. I didn't get a grab on too many of the robot fighters though, the Vipers killed them very quickly

Hey, look who I found still an active member account. Don't you have a rule against sock-puppets around here?

We can soon change that - you ready to be deleted, Wildebeest? I'll take 'no response' as a 'yes' this time.Wildebeest wrote:Hey, look who I found still an active member account.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills

Incredibly (but truly), it was only a week ago I was finally able to associate this account with a working email address.

Re: Introduce Yourself.
Hi. I've been playing this for a while but finally got around to creating an account. I don't really have much to say other than that this game is pretty great, worth every cent and then some.
Okay, well, I do have some complaints but they're minor and they'll keep. No refunds, I understand.
I first played Elite on the C64 and after losing track of it for many years I rediscovered it around the turn of the century. I played various versions using emulators and tried and tried to experience Acorn Elite that way. No real luck, but now I have this and it's too much fun. Mostly I use Ubuntu these days.
See you in space!
ETA: Welp, I meant ArcElite, didn't I? Comes from being from the left side of the pond.
