Adios and RIP, Terry Pratchett
DON'T THINK OF IT AS DYING, said Death. JUST THINK OF IT AS LEAVING EARLY TO AVOID THE RUSH.

<nods sadly> Ook!
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills

Re: Adios and RIP, Terry Pratchett
We have lost a titan of literature. I met the man once at the 2000 ad birthday bash (I was a roadie). Without doubt one of the cleverest and insightful people I've ever met.
Rest well master Pratchett.

Re: Adios and RIP, Terry Pratchett
This is a real bastard because we were what I'd call casual friends for many years - not really close, but he knew of me via SF conventions and my game writing, and there was a time when we were talking a couple of times a week and bouncing plot ideas off each other, but we drifted apart gradually as the commitments on his time grew. I haven't seen him for two years or so, it's a sod to think I never will again.

I don't think there is an adequate way to sum up such a rich imagination and what it means for it to be lost to the world.
My view of the world has ever so slightly been shifted since reading 'Colour of Magic' way back at university.
RIP Mr pratchett

Ook.
Truly a sad day. 'Tis time I made a list of his works that I haven't yet read, and get cracking, methinks.
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

he will surely be missed. one of my best finds in a secondhand book store was 5 audio books of Sir Terry's read by Tony Robinson ( Baldric,Time Team)
Arthur: OK. Leave this to me. I'm British. I know how to queue.
OR i could go with
Arthur Dent: I always said there was something fundamentally wrong with the universe.

Nobody influenced my writing more than Sir Terry.
That's about the only tribute I think I can muster for now.

Re: Adios and RIP, Terry Pratchett
Sad news. I've been reading Terry Pratchett since I was 11 and my dad handed me the two he owned. 14 years and 40 books later they have a shelf all to themselves on my bookcase. Millennium hand and shrimp...

It's coming a bit late in the day, now, but I've just read Charles Stross's blog post on Terry Pratchett. Worth a look, to those who want to do so:
