Re: Introduce Yourself.
Hi Guys, I'm Neilcom, very new to this, in fact all BBs, double virgin, inspired to say hi & thanks to all the dev crew for keeping The Game alive over so many years now. Could buy E Dangerous now I suppose but I don't really play games, I'll always have Oolite Life going on in parallel tho. Just upgraded to 1.8, thanks again guys, still aiming for Elite. Any other non gamers keep Oolite Live alive?

Re: Introduce Yourself.
Welcome Neilcom.
I don't do games either, but Oolite isn't a game, it is a way of life.

G'day Neilcom, and welcome aboard!
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied
Re: Introduce Yourself.
Commander Vincentz here. Just scraped enough credits together to get me a nice and shiny mk III
I have lurked now and then, but have, since I played the original Elite (yes, I'm THAT old) always dreamed of a nice spacesim with planetary landings, boarding of spaceships, interesting spacestations and lots of opportunities in ... space.
I'm really impressed with how far Oolite have come (though if I might say, I wish there were Packs, instead of 500+ addons, as I think lots of them are a must have).

There are quite a few of us here, who fit that description.. and more than a few of those who were already adults when Elite was released.. myself included.Vincentz wrote:since I played the original Elite (yes, I'm THAT old)
That would be rather difficult to arrange.. as (with only one or two possible exceptions) nobody here can even agree on what constitutes a "must have" addon.Vincentz wrote:(though if I might say, I wish there were Packs, instead of 500+ addons, as I think lots of them are a must have).

Re: Introduce Yourself.
Hi Vincentz, and welcome to the best 'Old Folks Home' in the Ooniverse.
Ha, yes, no such thing as a 'must-have' AddOn - the game is excellent in its vanilla form - but plenty to choose from if you want to make changes. Truth is I have very few, and they are nearly all eye-candy.

Re: Introduce Yourself.
G'day, and hullo-ah, gents and lasses.
I'm a relatively new player to Oolite, though not to Elite, having played some of the old dos versions back in the day and then the original release of Frontier (which is a whole different sort of a game, though still a classic to me). Since installing Oolite, I'm very impressed with how it takes the basic Elite template and gives everyone the opportunity to add mods, tinker, and expand the game world and gameplay-- Elite was never this versatile!
Since first installing the game just about two months ago, I've seen seedy space-bars, and escorted RRS rescue ships, and gambled in HOopy Casinos, and landed on intergalactic cruise ships, and bought shoddy second-hand equipment from Salvage Gangs, and far too many other things to remember. What a blast! I started in a Cobra Clipper SAR (You may recognize her by the unique purple paint scheme, and the name /Miss Hackwrench/ blazoned on the nosecone.) and recently began renovations on an old Cobra 2, soon to be running parcels and passengers under the name /Witchspace Wench/.
Which brings me to a couple of questions regarding some older ship oxp's that are still linked through the wiki, but lead to dead links/empty boxes. Notably several of these are, I think, Captain Solo's older files, and I was wondering if they were deliberately taken out of circulation and if not, where I can get copies. None of these are recent ship oxp's, but I've been going with a very retro theme on my modding. (I love the new 'Classic Ships' oxp, that's just the kind of thing I want the game to look like!)
Looking through my notes, the oxp's that are showing broken download links are:
http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/Copperhead (Note that this is the original, not the Mk2, which is still available.)
http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/Scimitar
http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/Accipiter
http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/Shuriken_OXP
http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/Old_Ships_2010
If anyone can point me to active downloads of these, or let me know if they're gone forever, I'd appreciate it! Thanks and keep your Witchspace Fuel Injectors clean!

Solo should be along sometime soon, with any luck.
